🫀 World Heart Rhythm Week | 1–7 June 2026 🫀

Your Heart, Your Rhythm, Your Story

This World Heart Rhythm Week, we join the global effort to raise awareness about arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) and the importance of early detection.

Every heartbeat tells a story. For some, an irregular heartbeat may be the first sign of a heart rhythm condition such as atrial fibrillation (AF). Recognising symptoms and knowing how to check your pulse can help identify problems early and improve outcomes.

❤️‍🩹 Do you experience:

• Palpitations or a racing heartbeat?
• Dizziness or light-headedness?
• Shortness of breath?
• Unexplained fatigue?
• Episodes of fainting?

❤️ Know Your Pulse

Take a moment to check your pulse regularly. If your heartbeat feels irregular, too fast, or too slow, consult your healthcare professional.

💚 Physiotherapy plays an important role in supporting cardiovascular health through safe exercise, physical activity guidance, and promoting overall wellbeing.

This week, take charge of your heart health:
✔️ Know your pulse
✔️ Be aware of the signs
✔️ Seek advice if something doesn't feel right

Your Heart. Your Rhythm. Your Story.

🦴💜💙 Arthritis Awareness Month 💙💜🦴

Arthritis affects millions of people worldwide and can impact daily activities, mobility, and overall quality of life. Common symptoms include joint pain, stiffness, swelling, and reduced movement.

Physiotherapy plays an important role in helping people with arthritis to:

✔️ Reduce pain and stiffness
✔️ Improve joint mobility and flexibility
✔️ Strengthen muscles around the joints
✔️ Improve balance and function
✔️ Maintain independence and quality of life

Movement is medicine — staying active with the right guidance can make a significant difference.

If you or a loved one are struggling with joint pain or arthritis symptoms, physiotherapy can help you move better, feel stronger, and live better. 💪

🩵 LET’S GO TURQUOISE FOR THE ELDERLY CAMPAIGN 🩵

This season, we’re coming together to support our elderly community with warmth, dignity, and care.

🧣 We are hosting a FLEECE BLANKET DRIVE 🧣
We are collecting any colour fleece blankets to help keep our elderly warm during the colder months.

📍 Drop-off points: Groenkloof Hub - Lizelle Rheeder Physiotherapy , Kraaibosch Frailcare, Welgelegen Frailcare
📅 Collection period: 15 May 2026 - 15 June 2026

Every blanket makes a difference. Even one act of kindness can bring comfort and warmth to someone in need.

🧼 A simple habit that protects everyone 🧼

This World Hand Hygiene Day, we’re reminded that action saves lives—and it starts with clean hands.

In our practice, your safety is always our priority. Every treatment, every interaction, and every visit is guided by careful hand hygiene to reduce the risk of infection and keep you well.

🧡 How you can help:
• Clean your hands before and after your appointment
• Use the hand sanitizer provided when you arrive
• Cover coughs and sneezes, and clean your hands afterwards
• Encourage good hand hygiene at home—especially when caring for loved ones

🖐️ We follow the “5 Moments for Hand Hygiene” in all home care and outpatient visits to protect you at every step of your care.

Together, these small actions make a big difference—for your health, your family, and our community.

🦺🧠 28 April – World Day for Safety and Health at Work 🧠🦺

Workplace safety is more than just protective gear. It’s about protecting both the body and mind.

This year, the International Labour Organization theme highlights the importance of good psychosocial working environments as a pathway to thriving workers and strong organizations.

At our practice, we see how physical injuries, stress, and workplace pressures can all impact health and recovery.

👩‍⚕️ Physiotherapists play a vital role in:

✔️ Treating physical injuries and pain
✔️ Helping patients manage stress-related tension and chronic pain
✔️ Promoting movement and exercise for mental well-being
✔️ Supporting safe return-to-work rehabilitation
✔️ Educating on posture, ergonomics, and healthy work habits

💡 Tips for a healthier work environment:

🔹 Encourage open communication and support
🔹 Take regular movement and stretch breaks
🔹 Prioritize work-life balance
🔹 Address pain, stress, or burnout early
🔹 Create ergonomic and emotionally safe workspaces

Healthy workers build strong organizations. 💪🏻

💊Chronic Pain & the Biopsychosocial Model 💊

Chronic pain is pain that persists for longer than 3 months, or beyond the expected healing time. It often continues even after tissues have healed because the nervous system can become more sensitive over time.

In physiotherapy, we use the biopsychosocial model to understand and treat chronic pain from all angles:

⭐️ Biological factors
Past injuries, inflammation, muscle weakness, joint stiffness, or changes in the nervous system can contribute to ongoing pain.

⭐️ Psychological factors
Stress, anxiety, depression, fear of movement, and negative beliefs about pain can increase pain sensitivity.

⭐️ Social factors
Work demands, family support, finances, sleep, and daily environment can all impact pain and recovery.

As physiotherapists, we don’t just treat the area that hurts—we treat the whole person. By addressing all 3 areas, we can help reduce pain, improve movement, and support long-term recovery.

🌍💙 11 April 2026 – World Parkinson’s Day
Hope in Motion: New steps in Parkinson’s Care 💙🌍

Today we stand in support of those living with Parkinson’s disease — raising awareness, breaking stigma, and advocating for better care.

This year’s theme reminds us that there is always hope in motion. Through early diagnosis, the right support, and ongoing care, individuals with Parkinson’s can continue to live meaningful, active lives.

💡Physiotherapy plays a key role in Parkinson’s care:
• Promoting mobility and flexibility
• Improving balance and reducing falls
• Supporting strength, posture, and coordination
• Encouraging independence in everyday life

✨ As healthcare professionals, we are committed to bridging care gaps and walking this journey alongside our patients — every step of the way.

💙 Together, we can move toward better care, stronger support, and a future filled with hope.
