Walking for Hope – Bau and Lau’s Cancer Walk 10 October 2026.
The identical twin brothers, Bouwer and Laurentius Schoonwinkel, retired from the South African Police Service after 33 years of dedicated service.
Last year they completed a104 kilometre walk over four days, from the Agulhas Lighthouse to Danger Point in Gansbaai, raising just over R60,000 for Overstrand Hospice.
On Saturday 10 October 2026, they laced up their walking shoes for Overstrand Hospice again.
They set off at 05:00 from Overstrand Hospice in Hermanus with Srs Ralie Dicks, Esme Potgieter and Amor du Preez there to cheer them on! Fran Tong and Sr Susan van Sittert accompanied the boys to the exit of Hermanus! They walked continuously for 12 hours, aiming to reach Pearly Beach within the 12 hours. They reached their goal and the 66 kilometres was covered within 12 hours. We are humbled that they chose to support Overstrand Hospice as well as their dedication to give back to the community. On behalf of our Board members, staff and patients, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Our Patient Care team went Pink! Sr Phindile Mazibuko brought an African spirit to the Cancer awareness month while Sr's Ralie Dicks, Petro Engelbrecht, Esme Potgieter and Susan van Sittert opted for pink bikini's with nappies!

Winners!
Two teams caused huge excitement at the annual Overstrand Hospice Quiz evening when they went through 6 rounds of sudden death before a winner could be declared!
The winning team was the Quizzie Rascals with team members:
Netarie Verwey; Carien Gooding; Lyn Bouchier; John Cowan; Peter Hill; Linda McNeil
In second place was team ALPHA with team members:
Brian and Eileen Wilton; Peter and Sue Doble; Terry and Sue Troughton.
