Yonus Degel is a 34 year old self taught artist from Cape Town, South Africa.
After spending eight years in Oslo, Norway, it was during this time, 2018 to be exact that he began pursuing art as a career. A pivotal moment came when one of his paintings was acquired by Crown Princess of Norway Mette-Marit, opening the door to opportunities unimaginable and international recognition.
His creative foundation was shaped by Waldorf Steiner education and a deep connection to the graffiti movement, both of which continue to influence his use of colour, materials, and form.
Working primarily in abstraction, Yonus creates intuitive, expressive compositions driven by curiosity, emotion, and spontaneity. His work explores the space between chaos and clarity, giving visual form to a personal realm that he has created over the duration of his career and the abstract entities which is seen in his work that he likes to call his Imaginary friends.
Today, his artworks are collected internationally and have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world.
We’re proud to have his work at DE RUST and to share a little of the world he creates with everyone who visits us.
