How can an Educational Psychologist help your family? 🎓

When a child or teen struggles with learning or behaviour, it’s often about more than just “trying harder”, it’s about understanding how their unique mind processes the world. Educational Psychologists bridge the gap between emotional well-being and academic success by looking at the “whole picture” of a child’s development. Our resident Educational Psychologist Riané van der Mescht uses a calm, compassionate approach to help families move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling empowered.

Here is how Riané can support your journey :

Psycho-educational Assessments : Identifying the root of challenges through cognitive, academic, and emotional testing.

Building Academic Tools: Providing specialised learning support, including effective study methods and techniques tailored to the individual.

Emotional & Behavioural Therapy: Supporting children and families through individual or group sessions to navigate life’s complexities.

School Readiness: Helping parents feel informed and confident about their child’s transition into formal schooling.

Career & Subject Choice: Providing clarity for older learners through aptitude assessments and guidance.

Parental Guidance: Offering practical strategies to support your child’s needs at home.

Progress isn’t always linear, but with the right tools and professional insight, every child can find their stride.

Play is more than just fun, it’s how children make sense of their world 🧩

At JBay Therapy Hub, we understand that for children navigating sensory sensitivities or developmental milestones, play is where the real work happens. It’s how they build confidence, process emotions, and develop the tools they need to thrive.

Whether a child is working through specific challenges or simply exploring their potential, we provide a space where they can feel supported, heard, and guided with professional care.

Because every journey looks different, and every step, no matter how small, is progress.

Don’t let the flu get the better of you!

When breathing feels tough, your whole life can feel like it’s on pause. Just as physiotherapy restores strength to your body, it is a powerful tool to help clear your airways and get you back to the activities you love.

Your journey, your pace 🌿

We know that one of the biggest hurdles to starting therapy isn’t just the “first step”, it’s the “what comes next?” Questions about costs and how often you’ll need to come are completely normal, and they shouldn’t be the thing that keeps you from feeling supported.

At JBay Therapy Hub, we believe therapy should fit your life, not the other way around.

Here’s how we keep the process grounded and sustainable:

- There is no “one size fits all” schedule. Your journey is unique, and we work with you to find a frequency that respects both your needs and your budget.
- Consistency over intensity. Just as small, regular movements help the body heal in physiotherapy, even monthly or bi-weekly sessions build the “tools” you need for lasting stability.
- Healing happens in cycles. Progress isn’t about being here every week; it’s about building awareness and coping skills that you carry with you into your everyday life.

Whether you’re navigating life’s complexities or simply seeking clarity, you don’t have to do it alone, and you don’t have to have it all figured out to start.

Healing is a skill, not a sprint. Let’s find a pace that works for you.

✨ Take that first step. Visit the link in our Bio to book an initial consultation or to chat about our session options.

Healing is not linear đź’›

It’s common to move forward, then feel like you’ve taken a step back. This doesn’t mean you’re not making progress.

Healing often happens in cycles. As we process experiences, new thoughts, emotions, or memories can surface at different stages. This is part of how the mind and body works through and integrates what you’ve been through.

Progress is not about feeling better every day. It’s about building awareness, developing coping tools, and gradually finding more stability over time.

If your journey feels uneven, you’re not doing it wrong. It’s simply part of the process.

“Boys don’t cry.”
A message passed down for generations.

But suppressing emotion doesn’t remove it, it changes how it shows up.

Understanding your emotions is not a weakness.
It’s a skill.

Staying consistent with your physiotherapy matters more than you might think đź’›

When a physiotherapist prescribes exercises, it’s not just something to do during your session.
Those movements are carefully chosen to support your body’s recovery, strengthen specific areas, and improve how you move in your everyday life.

In many ways, your home exercises are like your medicine.

Just as medication needs to be taken consistently to be effective, physiotherapy exercises need to be done regularly to support healing and progress. Skipping them can slow things down, while small, consistent effort can make a meaningful difference over time.

These exercises are designed for you, your body, and your specific needs. They work gradually, helping to restore strength, improve mobility, and build confidence in movement again.

It’s not about doing everything perfectly. It’s about showing up for your body, one step at a time.

Some children experience the world a little more intensely than others.

Sounds may feel louder. Clothing tags may feel uncomfortable. Bright lights, busy environments, or certain textures can quickly become overwhelming. This is often referred to as sensory sensitivity, and it forms part of how some children process sensory information from the world around them.

Children with sensory sensitivities are not being difficult or “overreacting.” Their nervous systems may simply be responding more strongly to sensory input.

You might notice things like:

• Covering ears in noisy environments
• Avoiding certain clothing textures
• Being overwhelmed in busy places
• Strong reactions to smells, lights, or touch
• Difficulty settling when there is too much sensory input

With the right understanding and support, children can learn ways to manage these experiences and feel more comfortable in their environments. Small adjustments at home, school, and in daily routines can make a meaningful difference.

If you’re noticing sensory sensitivities in your child and would like guidance, our team at JBay Therapy Hub is here to help support both you and your child 💛

Neurological conditions affect how the brain, spinal cord, and nerves communicate with the body. When this communication is disrupted, it can impact movement, balance, coordination, and everyday activities.

Physiotherapy can play an important role in helping the body regain strength and function. Through guided movement, targeted exercises, and supportive rehabilitation, therapy focuses on helping individuals improve mobility, stability, and confidence in daily life.

At JBay Therapy Hub, our resident physiotherapist Anri Pretorius works with individuals living with neurological conditions such as:

• Stroke
• Traumatic brain injuries
• Spinal cord injuries
• Parkinson’s disease
• Multiple sclerosis
• Bell’s Palsy
• Diabetic neuropathy
• Guillain-Barré syndrome
• Cerebral palsy

Each treatment plan is carefully tailored to the individual, with the goal of supporting greater independence, improved movement, and a better quality of life.
