Not everyone needs therapy. But here are some signs you might :

- You’re doing everything “right” but still feel discontent, anxious, or emotionally heavy
- You haven’t been feeling like yourself, but can’t pinpoint why.
- You feel overstimulated, numb, or detached, like you’re watching your life from the sidelines.
- You’ve been through a major life transition, such as a new job, a move, a breakup, or a loss, and still feel unsettled.
- You’re relying on coping patterns that you know may be harmful.
- You find yourself doubting, second-guessing yourself, or replaying conversations and interactions long after they’ve happened.
- You’re always in a rush or living in “survival mode,” feeling fatigued without a clear explanation.

If any of these signs resonate with you, it might be worth reaching out. Therapy isn’t just for moments of crisis. Sometimes, it’s simply a space to better understand yourself, navigate life’s challenges, and build the tools to move forward.

Some people experience the world differently. 🌿

A shirt tag feels unbearable. The supermarket is overwhelming. Certain sounds are painfully loud, while others barely seem to register. It’s not about being “too sensitive” or “too fussy.”

It could be Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).

SPD affects the way the brain receives and responds to sensory information like touch, sound, smell, taste, movement and balance. While it’s often recognised in children, sensory processing challenges can continue into adulthood, affecting everyday life in ways that aren’t always visible to others.

Understanding sensory processing is the first step. With the right support and practical strategies, children and adults can build the tools they need to feel more confident, capable and comfortable in their everyday world.

Every journey looks different, and no one should have to navigate it alone.

Feeling anxious? Try this simple breathing exercise :

🌸 Smell the flower...
Take a slow, gentle breath in through your nose.

🕯️ Blow out the candle...
Breathe out slowly through your mouth, as if you’re blowing out a candle without making the flame flicker.

This simple technique helps slow your breathing, signalling to your nervous system that you’re safe. While it won’t make anxiety disappear, it can help your body feel calmer and more grounded in the moment.

The more you practise when you’re feeling calm, the easier it becomes to use when anxiety shows up.

If anxiety is making everyday life feel overwhelming, our team of therapists is here to help. You don’t have to navigate it alone.

A semicolon marks a sentence that could have ended, but didn’t.

Life can feel like that sometimes too.

There are moments when the road ahead feels uncertain. Seasons that ask more of us than we feel able to give. Chapters we never expected to face.

Yet somehow, we keep going.

Not because it’s easy, but because there is still more to our story.

If you’re in a difficult chapter right now, this is your reminder: your story isn’t over yet. 💙

At JBay Therapy Hub, we’re here to walk alongside you, one sentence at a time.

What if the behaviour you’re trying to stop is actually a message?

When children are overwhelmed, worried, frustrated, or struggling to cope, they don’t always have the words to tell us.

Instead, those feelings often show up through behaviour.

A meltdown.
Withdrawal.
Defiance.
Big emotions.

Behaviour is often communication.

When we pause and become curious about what a child might be feeling, rather than focusing only on what they’re doing, we create space for understanding, connection, and growth.

Sometimes the most important question isn’t, “How do I stop this behaviour?”

It’s, “What is my child trying to tell me?”

💙 At JBay Therapy Hub, we believe every behaviour has a story worth understanding.

Anxiety is a very convincing storyteller.

It has a way of presenting fears as facts.

“Something bad is going to happen.”
“I can’t handle this.”
“Everyone is judging me.”

When we’re feeling anxious, these thoughts can seem so real that we stop questioning them. We treat them as truths rather than possibilities.

But thoughts are not always facts.

One of the most powerful skills we can learn is to pause and ask:

Is this thought helping me?
What evidence do I have for it?
Is there another way to look at this situation?

Learning to question anxious thoughts doesn’t make them disappear overnight, but it can help loosen their grip and create space for a calmer, more balanced perspective.

If anxiety has been taking up more space in your life than you’d like, support is available.

How can an Educational Psychologist help your family? 🎓

When a child or teen struggles with learning or behaviour, it’s often about more than just “trying harder”, it’s about understanding how their unique mind processes the world. Educational Psychologists bridge the gap between emotional well-being and academic success by looking at the “whole picture” of a child’s development. Our resident Educational Psychologist Riané van der Mescht uses a calm, compassionate approach to help families move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling empowered.

Here is how Riané can support your journey :

Psycho-educational Assessments : Identifying the root of challenges through cognitive, academic, and emotional testing.

Building Academic Tools: Providing specialised learning support, including effective study methods and techniques tailored to the individual.

Emotional & Behavioural Therapy: Supporting children and families through individual or group sessions to navigate life’s complexities.

School Readiness: Helping parents feel informed and confident about their child’s transition into formal schooling.

Career & Subject Choice: Providing clarity for older learners through aptitude assessments and guidance.

Parental Guidance: Offering practical strategies to support your child’s needs at home.

Progress isn’t always linear, but with the right tools and professional insight, every child can find their stride.

Play is more than just fun, it’s how children make sense of their world 🧩

At JBay Therapy Hub, we understand that for children navigating sensory sensitivities or developmental milestones, play is where the real work happens. It’s how they build confidence, process emotions, and develop the tools they need to thrive.

Whether a child is working through specific challenges or simply exploring their potential, we provide a space where they can feel supported, heard, and guided with professional care.

Because every journey looks different, and every step, no matter how small, is progress.
