The sexual side-effects of breast cancer treatment are common, treatable, and almost never on the agenda at diagnosis.

I only knew you for about 4 years, and you had such a big impact in my life.

Prof , I am putting your voice over this reel, so that more people can see how "real" you were. You testified of conquering breast cancer twice, you normalised mammograms and pap smears and sexual health, you were an advocate for "early detection saves lifes". You were the biggest cheeerleader of us youngsters (evidence in the last photo). You touched so many people. I felt inspired after every moment I spent with you. Your humour helped me not take life so seriously.

Thank you.

Prof Elna McIntosh was a matriarch of sexual health in South Africa and far beyond.

She mentored generations of practitioners, lectured at Wits, UNISA and Sefako Makgatho, co-created landmark television including InterSEXions and S*x Etc, served as S*xpert for Health24 for over a decade, founded SASSERT, and sat on the board of PinkDrive. She published more than 200 articles. Ran seven Comrades. Climbed Kilimanjaro twice. Rowed countless Dusi Marathons.

But what no credential captures is the way she gave her time. To the field, to individuals, to the people and communities who needed her most. She opened doors. She made introductions. She believed in people long before they believed in themselves, and she encouraged a generation of practitioners to take up space in a field that needed them.

She had a way of presenting hard truths plainly enough to shift how rooms thought. And, by every account, she made people laugh.

Her own words defined her purpose: to tell the truth about sexuality, support people in feeling sexually normal and powerful, and promote healthy sexual expression for everyone.

She survived breast cancer twice. She never truly retired. And we have lost someone irreplaceable.

To her family, her colleagues, and the many she shaped, we are holding you today.

Peptides are a growing area of interest in medicine and wellness — but it’s important to make informed decisions.

Most peptides are NOT FDA approved and many still have limited human research and long-term safety data available. What works for one person may not be safe or appropriate for another.

If considering peptide therapy:
• Consult a qualified medical practitioner
• Ensure proper medical screening and monitoring
• Use only SAHPRA-approved compounding pharmacies
• Understand the potential risks, interactions, contraindications and unknowns

Education first. Trends second. Informed decisions always.

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as signaling molecules in the body — influencing processes like metabolism, growth, healing, inflammation, and hormone regulation.

The very first therapeutic peptide was insulin, discovered over 100 years ago and still one of the most important peptide medications used today. Other registered peptide-based medicines include GLP-1 agonists (like semaglutide), calcitonin, oxytocin, and some fertility and growth hormone–related treatments.

Important to know: while some peptides are evidence-based and medically approved, many peptides marketed online or in wellness clinics are NOT FDA-approved and often lack strong long-term safety and efficacy data. “Natural” or “biohacking” does not always mean safe.

As always: evidence, regulation, dosing quality, and medical supervision matter.
