1 - 7 August 2026 📅 Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease Awareness Week
This week, we join the global community in raising awareness about Rheumatic Fever (RF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD)—conditions that can be prevented through early diagnosis and timely treatment.
Rheumatic fever is a serious inflammatory disease that can develop after an untreated streptococcal (strep) throat infection. If left untreated, it can permanently damage the heart valves, resulting in Rheumatic Heart Disease.
💡 Did you know? • Rheumatic Fever most commonly affects children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 15 years. • Early treatment of strep throat with the correct antibiotics can prevent Rheumatic Fever. • Rheumatic Heart Disease remains a significant cause of preventable heart disease in many communities. • Early diagnosis and ongoing medical care can improve health outcomes and quality of life.
❤️ Protect your heart:
✅ Seek medical attention for a persistent sore throat or fever.
✅ Complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed.
✅ Attend regular follow-up appointments if you have a history of Rheumatic Fever.
✅ Learn the signs and symptoms, and help raise awareness in your community.
At Future Nurses Nursing School, we believe that education is the foundation of prevention. By empowering future healthcare professionals and educating our communities, we can work together to reduce the burden of preventable diseases.
🩺 Prevention starts with knowledge. Healthy hearts start with early action.
