Labour is physical work, and keeping your body hydrated can help maintain energy levels, support muscle function, and improve overall comfort throughout the process.

Water is always a great choice, but many moms also enjoy coconut water, Energade, or Powerade to help replace fluids and electrolytes during labour.

Pack your favourite hydration options in your birth bag and remember to take regular sips throughout labour.

❄️ How to Dress Your Newborn in Winter ❄️
👶 Keeping your newborn warm and comfortable during winter is important—but so is avoiding overheating.
💡 A simple rule: Dress your baby in one more layer than you are wearing.
Winter Newborn Essentials: 🧦 Soft socks or booties to keep tiny feet warm
👕 A cotton vest or bodysuit as a base layer
🧸 A long-sleeved babygrow or sleepsuit
🧥 An extra layer such, or swaddle blanket if needed
🎩 A beanie when outdoors or in very cold environments
🌡️ How to check if baby is comfortable: Feel the back of your baby's neck or chest.
✔️ Warm = just right
❌ Sweaty or hot = remove a layer
❌ Cool to the touch = add a layer
🛏️ Safe Sleep Reminder
Avoid loose blankets, pillows, and soft toys in the cot that can cover face.
Use an appropriate baby sleeping bag or firmly tucked blanket.
Babies should always be placed on their backs or sides, and NEVER on their tummy to sleep.

How Often Will You Need an Antenatal Consultation at Birth on 5th?
🤍 More than a birth facility — a home where families begin.
At Birth on 5th, your antenatal care is tailored to support a safe, informed, and empowering pregnancy journey.
📅 Antenatal Consultation Schedule • Every 4 weeks until 28 weeks of pregnancy
• Every 2 weeks (fortnightly) from 28–37 weeks
• Weekly from 37 weeks until birth
📌 Consultations are by appointment only.
💳 Please note: Antenatal consultation fees are not included in the birth package fees.
Backup Obstetrician & Hospital is a Requirement
As part of safe maternity care:
✔️ You will need to see a backup obstetrician twice during your pregnancy (private option available).
OR
✔️ If you are using a provincial hospital as your emergency transfer facility, you will need to attend your local district clinic at least twice to:
Obtain a clinic card
Complete the required antenatal blood tests and screening
Because while Birth on 5th offers the comfort of home, we also ensure every family has access to the wider healthcare system should it ever be needed.
