Have you ever caught yourself thinking...
"What's going on with me?"
You forget why you walked into a room.
You lose your train of thought halfway through a sentence.
You read the same paragraph three times and still can't remember what it said.
You struggle to concentrate, even on things you care about.
Brain fog can have many causes, including medication, hormonal changes, and poor sleep. But for many people living with PTSD or CPTSD, it's also a sign of a nervous system that's been under chronic stress for far too long.
When your brain spends so much energy scanning for danger, there isn't always much left for memory, focus, or concentration.
For some people, that ongoing stress can also contribute to dissociation, creating the feeling of being disconnected from yourself or the world around you.
If this is something you've been experiencing, try not to judge yourself for it.
Your brain isn't failing you.
It's responding the best way it knows how after carrying more than it was ever meant to.
Healing isn't about forcing yourself to "try harder."
It's about helping your nervous system finally realize that it doesn't have to survive every moment anymore.
