Dr Carol Tait from Anova Health Institute was pleased to be part of the organising committee for the Summer Academy for the Social Science of Health Innovation, also sharing her experiences and perspectives working at Anova, an NGO in South Africa.

In her session, insights shared by Youth Ambassadors, Dineo Ramaotsoa, Mpho Malindi, Sanela Aphane, Mpumelelo Malinga, Bianca Vara and Buhlebembali Ndaba highlighted some of the key needs and priorities of young people today.

A big thank you to Helene-Mari van der Westhuizen for her invaluable support in facilitating the session and making it a meaningful conversation. We also appreciate Anne Ferrey for the opportunity to be involved in SASHI this year.

NATIONAL PRIDE FLAG TOUR | JOHANNESBURG EDITION

“How do we continue and move forward with the important work?”

On 17 August, Anova Health Institute hosted the Johannesburg stop of the National Pride Flag Tour, in partnership with Aurum POP INN programme. The tour creates an important platform for dialogue, collaboration and renewed commitment to inclusive, people-centred healthcare for LGBTIQ+ people and other Key Populations.

As a sub-recipient of The Aurum Institute under the The Global Fund Cycle 7 programme, Anova was proud to host this important engagement. The tour aims to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders, build public confidence in available health services and promote greater awareness of inclusive, stigma-free healthcare.

We were honoured to be joined by our own Dr Diana Mokoena, Gladys Chabalala, Co-Chairperson of the Gauteng AIDS Council and Provincial Chairperson of the Gauteng SANAC Civil Society Forum, Gauteng LGBTIQ+ sector leader Meisie Motaung, and partners including OUT Wellbeing, Best Health Solutions, the City of Johannesburg District Department of Health, Khoroni Men’s Forum, beneficiaries and members of the community.

The Johannesburg stop provided an opportunity to celebrate the progress we have made, acknowledge the challenges that remain, and reaffirm the importance of strong partnerships, community voices and accessible, inclusive and stigma-free services.

The work continues. And we move forward together.

Yesterday, NACOSA and Anova Health Institute welcomed The Global Fund team to ANOVA's My Journey Safe Spaces. The My Journey programme supports girls and young women to take charge of their health and wellbeing by providing HIV prevention choices and access to wellbeing services in their communities.

These youth friendly safe spaces show what strong partnerships can achieve by giving girls and young women access to information, support and services that help them make informed choices about their health.
