When trauma gets in the way of grief, support needs to change too.

When someone important in a child鈥檚 life dies, it is likely to be a sad and painful time.

But sometimes the trauma of the death can get in the way, making it difficult to even start to grieve.

Children and young people might experience heightened anxiety, fear and be frequently overwhelmed by reminders of the death.

We call this traumatic bereavement.

What can professionals do to support? Although many typical bereavement support strategies can still be helpful, sometimes they are not enough.

Our project the UK Trauma Council鈥檚 Traumatic bereavement training is available for just this situation, guiding practitioners to find ways to help a child or young person manage their trauma AND grieve their loss.

We have training dates coming up in July and September. Find out more: https://orlo.uk/0xSNS

This is one of my favorite sayings. All feelings are okay and normal, but it's what we do with those feelings that matter!
