What does fibre consumption have to do with my pelvic floor muscles you may ask?

A lot!

Soluble fibre from chia seeds, oats, prunes softens stool, and insoluble fibre from whole grains, skins, veg adds bulk and sp*eds transit.

Hard stools and pushing:
- overloads the pelvic floor muscles
- increase downward pressure on pelvic organs (especially important for ladies experience a prolapse)
- can increase the risk for haemorrhoids
- aggravate pelvic pain

Ideally you want your stools to be soft, formed, easy to pass 👌🏼

Too little fibre: hard pellets, incomplete bowel emptying and constipation 😢

When stools pass easily the pelvic floor muscle can relax appropriately, abdominal pressure remains low, coordination improves and you are less likely to bear down and push (creating excessive downward force).

So… how much fibre are you getting at each meal?

Try aim for 10g a meal 😊

You’ve got this 💪🏼

It’s my first official day back at work! 😊

I’ve been off work for 5 weeks following an arthroscopic meniscus repair to my right knee. It’s been an interesting journey.

I’ve had to learn to slow down, ask for help, be patient, and let others take the lead.

I’m also so grateful because I truly have the best family and friends. My husband took over all the morning drops offs. My mom handled all the afternoon pick ups and extra murals. My friends have offered me lifts, lunches, support, food and check ins. It’s been heartwarming ❤️

Some things that happened in the last few weeks:
- figuring out how to add some padding to the crutches during the non weight bearing phase, which was KILLER on my hands
- having my stitches removed
- doing my exercises and being lucky enough to have my own electrical muscle stimulator to get my muscles going (because muscle atrophy is a real thing 🙈)
- my non surgical leg working overtime massively!

I have deeper empathy and understanding of what some of my patients go through. I’m still walking the journey of rehab and building muscle again. All I know is that it is going to be interesting. I’m letting go and just taking one day at a time.

See you all in my office and the playground 😉
