Pain matters. But when you live with persistent or recurring pain, it may not tell the whole story of your recovery.
Progress can also look like:
Feeling less afraid of a movement
Recovering more easily after activity
Doing something you had been avoiding
Feeling more confident in your body
Returning to activities that matter to you
After movement, try not to ask only:
“Did it hurt?”
Also ask:
“What did I expect would happen?”
“What actually happened?”
“What did my body tolerate better than I thought?”
Pain remains useful information, and movement should be adjusted when symptoms feel excessive, unfamiliar or increasingly difficult to settle.
Try notice the full picture. Perhaps your pain hasn’t changed much yet but you walked a little farther, moved with less fear or recovered more quickly afterwards.
Progress may look like trusting your body a little more than you did last month.
