Information Brochure

Park Care is a Faith Based Organization with NPO & PBO registration certificates. The Dutch Reform Church wanted to provide institutional care for older persons and in 1961 the Park Lane Clinic/Nurses Home was purchased for this purpose. Over the years the focus shifted more towards care of the frail, due to an increase in demand. The original buildings were renovated, and three new extensions were added in 2003. Of the 6 buildings, 4 were named after flowers found in Park Care’s gardens, namely Clivia, Forget-me-Not, Jakaranda, and Petrea. The Dementia care ward’s name, Forget-me-Not, echoes the great value that Park Care places on the care and well-being of residents in this section. The original name of the home was changed from “Die Witwatersrandse Tuiste vir Bejaardes” to “PARKSORG SENTRUM / PARK CARE CENTRE” in 2003, to reflect the Centre’s focus on 24/7 residential nursing and palliative (end of life) care to 320 mainly physically and mentally frail residents. Residents are comprised of mainly older persons from diverse backgrounds, racial groups, languages, religions and cultures, all in need of long-term nursing care. Home Based Care Program - Community Services
• Park Care is managing a successful Home Based Care Program for 270 Elderly in the needy adjacent Vrededorp neighbourhood, where the poorest of the poor, frail and vulnerable older persons are supported with transport & es**rt services to hospitals and clinics, home cleaning, personal hygiene, counselling and more. Older persons are assisted with these life-saving services, which has been made possible with funding
The Centre also frequently donates clothing, furniture & equipment to older persons in Vrededorp, and to other organizations.

• The Facility is a safe haven for vulnerable elderly, and safe bed admissions are often necessary as an emergency measure.
• Support and counseling are freely offered to all resident’s family members, and community members making enquiries.
• Alice Adoption Home is visited on a weekly basis, and Park Care residents spend quality time with the babies in the home.
• Park Care allows Nursing and Social Work students to do their practical placements at Park Care. Park Care is passionate about skills transfer, outreach and lifting the plight of vulnerable older persons. www.parkcare.co.za

🍽️ Reef Caterers ~ Serving with Joy.... Sometimes, the greatest ingredient in any meal is the heart of the people serving it.....
And our wonderful team from Reef Caterers did just that on Mandela Day ~ celebrations that treated our residents to delicious treats and bringing so much more than food to the table....
With warm smiles, cheerful conversation, joyful songs and genuine enthusiasm, they transformed a mealtime into a celebration - Their kindness, laughter and willingness to spend time with our residents created an atmosphere filled with happiness, connection and the true spirit of Mandela Day.....
Every dish was served with care, every interaction with sincerity, and every smile shared reminded us that hospitality is about far more than a meal ~ it is about making people feel welcomed, valued and loved.
To the entire Reef Caterers team, thank you for exerting yourselves with some exquisite details and for the captivating care you took in collating this special day, for the joy you brought into our centre, and for serving with such generous hearts. Your kindness was a gift our residents will remember long after the tables were cleared.
🌻 The finest hospitality is not only found in what is served, but in the joy with which it is shared.... 👑 Every act of kindness became a jewel in the crown, together forming a crown of generosity that adorned our celebrations

👑 A Little Prince of Kindness... and a Few Royal Giggles! As we continue unpacking the many thoughtful gifts and treasured memories from our Mandela Day celebrations, we have another little treasure tucked among them...
A collection of handwritten notes - Some were wonderfully heartfelt..... Some incredibly thoughtful.... And a few... well... let's just say - cuteness in overload! 😄 Each note was a beautiful reminder that kindness doesn't always arrive in grand gestures. Sometimes it comes folded into a small piece of paper, written with sincerity, humor and a heart full of compassion.
To the anonymous "authors" of these delightful messages ~ thank you for leaving us with delightful thoughts that have lasted long after Mandela Day itself..... and we thought we'd share a few of our favourites with you, because we all need something cheerful heading into the weekend.....
To every familiar face who returned, to every new friend who walked through our doors for the first time, and to every person who shared their time, talents or generosity ~ thank you. Together you reminded us that compassion grows strongest when it is shared, nurtured and carried forward.
👑 Sometimes the smallest notes carry the biggest smiles... and every now and then, one deserves a little crown of its own.
Happy weekend, everyone! May your days be filled with kindness, laughter and moments that make your heart smile. 🌻💚

💙 ~ Where Kindness Leaves Its Footprints ~ Some moments do not ask to be noticed..... They simply settle quietly into our hearts, becoming part of the story we carry long after the day has passed.
Our heartfelt thanks to the learners and staff of The Ridge School, and Teacher Tshepiso, whose warm encouragement was reflected in the kindness and compassion shown by every learner, for spending part of your Mandela Day with the Park Care Centre family.
With thoughtful treats in hand and generous hearts wide open, you brought joyful laughter, meaningful conversations and the beautiful gift of your presence. Generations met with genuine curiosity, stories found willing listeners, and simple conversations blossomed into treasured memories.....
Especially the touching interaction between learners and residents captured the very heart of Mandela Day. There were no grand speeches or extraordinary gestures - only the quiet grace of one person choosing to truly see another. In those moments, kindness spoke its most beautiful language.
As another golden thread woven into the rich brocade of our Mandela Day robe, your visit reminded us that communities are strengthened not only through acts of generosity, but through relationships built one conversation, one smile and one compassionate heart at a time.
To every learner, every member of staff and Teacher Tshepiso, thank you for leaving footprints of kindness that will remain in our hearts long after Mandela Day has become a treasured memory.
💙 The greatest legacy we leave is not found in what we give, but in the lives we gently touch along the way 💙

👑 St Katharine’s School ~ A Harvest of Kindness ~ Some gifts nourish the body.... Others awaken the spirit.
On Mandela Day, the wonderful girls of St Katharine's School brought both.
With generous bags of freshly prepared, packed, vegetables in their hands, they arrived with songs in their hearts, ready to share something far greater than a donation and exuberance. As their beautiful voices filled our home, smiles gently unfolded, conversations paused, and for a little while, music became the language that united generations.
The fresh produce they so generously donated will certainly help nourish our residents in the days ahead – Yet - it was their warmth, their joyful presence and their gift of song that left an equally lasting imprint on the hearts of those who listened.
Like another golden thread woven into the rich robe of our Mandela Day celebrations, their visit reminded us that kindness is most beautiful when it cherishes both body and soul.
To the learners, teacher Linsey, educators and the entire St Katharine's School community, thank you for sharing not only your generosity, but also your compassion, your enthusiasm and your willingness to brighten the lives of others..... one could not have asked for better neighbors .... neighbors who never stop finding reasons to come through Park Care’s gates - certainly to be adored for always
👑🎵 For the richest harvest is gathered wherever kindness is sown, generosity is shared, and hearts sing together.....

🍪 Skills Panda ~ Kindness Prepared with Care... Long before they arrived at Park Care Centre, kindness was already taking shape....
Time was set aside - Thoughtful preparations were made - Cakes were baked, scones lovingly prepared, Mandela Day treat containers carefully packed, and generous hearts readied for a day of service.
A heartfelt thank you to Skills Panda Team and Gomotsegang Mojapelo, for visiting our residents and sharing far more than refreshments. You shared your time, your warmth, your conversations and your genuine care.
Like another golden thread woven into the rich brocade of our Mandela Day celebrations, your visit reminded us that kindness is never measured by what is placed into someone's hands, but by what is left within their hearts.
Throughout the visit, smiles were exchanged, moments of loving care were shared, laughter echoed through our home, and beautiful connections were formed between generations. It was these moments of togetherness that became the greatest gift of all
Thank you for walking the extra mile long before you arrived, and for leaving behind something far more enduring than refreshments - a lasting reminder that compassion, shared with sincerity, has the power to touch lives in ways words can scarcely describe.
🍪 For the sweetest gifts are not always those we taste, but those we carry in our hearts long after the day is done.
