Cuddles & Co Doula Services A doulas primary job is to assist a woman to have the best possible birth experience, as she defines What’s a doula?

The word “doula” comes from the ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves” and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period. Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors ar

e shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily. A Birth Doula

Recognizes birth as a key experience the mother will remember all her life
Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor
Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth
Stays with the woman throughout the labor
Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make informed decision
Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers
Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the woman’s memory of the birth experience
Allows the woman’s partner to participate at his/her comfort level
Why use a doula? Women have complex needs during childbirth and the weeks that follow. In addition to medical care and the love and companionship provided by their partners, women need consistent, continuous reassurance, comfort, encouragement and respect. They need individualized care based on their circumstances and preferences. Doulas are educated and experienced in childbirth and the postpartum period. We are prepared to provide physical (non-medical), emotional and informational support to women and their partners during labor and birth, as well as to families in the weeks following childbirth. We offer a loving touch, positioning and comfort measures that make childbearing women and families feel nurtured and cared for. Numerous clinical studies have found that a doula’s presence at birth

* tends to result in shorter labors with fewer complications
* reduces negative feelings about one’s childbirth experience
* reduces the need for pitocin (a labor-inducing drug), forceps or vacuum extraction and cesareans
* reduces the mother’s request for pain medication and/or epidurals

Research shows parents who receive support can:

* Feel more secure and cared for
* Are more successful in adapting to new family dynamics
* Have greater success with breastfeeding
* Have greater self-confidence
* Have less postpartum depression

❤️ My heart!

This one is extra special 🤍

This phenomenal first time mama had a beautifully quick labour and breezed through birth like an absolute superstar, welcoming her precious blessing into the world ✨

Your strength, trust, and calm inspired me, and I could not be more proud of you.

But what makes this birth even more special is that today I got to watch my friend become a mommy, and her wonderful husband become a daddy 🥹

What a privilege it was to witness your family begin and to watch you both meet your beautiful baby for the very first time.

Congratulations, my beauties. I am so incredibly proud of you both and cannot wait to watch your little family grow 🤍

What a birth 🤍

A call at 1am and straight into the car to support an incredible mama as she welcomed her eighth beautiful blessing into the world ✨

I have had the absolute privilege of supporting three of her births, and every single one has been just as powerful and beautiful as the last.

Watching this family grow over the years has been such an honour, and being invited back time and time again is something I never take for granted.

Mama, I am so incredibly proud of you. You birthed with such strength, confidence, and grace. What a privilege it was to stand beside you once again.

Congratulations to your beautiful family, and happy fourth trimester 🤍 I cannot wait for all the cuddles!

😍 My heart is so happy!

Back at Genesis for the most gorgeous birth today🤍

This first time mama arrived fully dilated, trusted her body completely, and birthed her miracle exactly as she was meant to ✨

Surrounded by the love and support of her husband, their beautiful blessing arrived earthside so peacefully, making this doula heart so incredibly full 🥹

What an amazing Father’s Day gift for a brand new dad 🩵

Then, just 5 minutes after getting home, I looked out the window and noticed one of my mama sheep was in labour 😂🐑

A few moments later, she welcomed a gigantic lamb into the world!

Babies everywhere today 😍

It truly was a beautiful day for birth, both human and sheep 🤍✨😂😂🩷 farmer Meek’s in the house !

Congratulations to this incredible family. Happy fourth trimester 🥰

My heart is heavy 🤍

Today I learnt of the passing of one of the most incredible midwives, a woman who helped shape midwifery in our country and touched the lives of countless families.

I had the privilege of supporting births alongside Sister Marilyn and Sister Veronica, and over the years I was also fortunate enough to play a small role in helping with their social media presence.

To Sister Veronica, my fellow doula Elizabeth, Sister Marilyn’s family, friends, colleagues, and every mother whose life was touched by her remarkable light, I am holding you all in my heart during this difficult time.

Sister Marilyn’s legacy will live on through the generations of mothers, babies, midwives, and birth workers she inspired.

Rest easy, Sister Marilyn 🤍

You will always be a legend in the maternity world.

There are no words that truly capture the sadness of saying goodbye to someone who meant so much.

My heart is heavy as I reflect on the loss of Marilyn Sher, the “M” in M&V Midwives. For so many years she was not only my colleague, mentor, and friend, but someone I admired deeply and learned so much from.

Mother, Grandmother, Midwife, Mentor, Friend.

Marilyn was a remarkable woman whose kindness, strength, wisdom, and passion for midwifery touched countless lives. She dedicated more than 50 years to caring for women and babies, walking alongside families during some of the most important moments of their lives.

She believed deeply that women deserved to birth with dignity, respect, and choice. She championed independent midwifery, shared her knowledge generously, and inspired generations of midwives fortunate enough to learn from her.

What I admired most was her passion. Even after decades in midwifery, her love for birth never faded. Midwifery was never simply a profession to Marilyn, it was her calling.

Her gentle wisdom, calm presence, and unwavering faith touched more lives than she will ever know. The families she cared for, the babies she welcomed, and the midwives she mentored will continue to carry her legacy forward.

Thank you, Marilyn, for everything you gave to this profession, to the families you served, and to those of us privileged enough to call you our friend.

You will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.

With love, gratitude, and a broken heart,

Veronica 🤍

I’m home. 🥹❤️ finally back at Genesis 🥰

Back in my happy place at Genesis, supporting another beautiful family as they welcomed their precious baby into the world.

After some time away, walking back through those doors felt so special. There is nothing quite like witnessing the strength of a mother, hearing that first cry, and watching a family meet their baby for the very first time.

My heart is full and it feels so good to be back doing what I love.

Doula Kat ❤️

Today I got to watch my doula bestie absolutely smash Comrades 🏃‍♀️✨

Tamryn Schmahl from Shakti Births | Doula , there are no words for how proud I am of you 🤍

Months of training, determination, and grit, and today you completed the Ultimate Human Race. What an incredible achievement.

And because life as a doula is never predictable, one of your clients decided that today was also the perfect day to meet her baby 🥹

So while you were out there conquering Comrades, I had the privilege of supporting a beautiful family on your behalf as their little one made their way earthside 🤍

My girl, I am so proud of you, and I will always have your back.

Congratulations on an incredible achievement. Now go put your feet up 😂❤️

Love your lazy non runner back up Doula 🙈

( no time for pictures so thank you Google )

Back where my heart belongs. 🤍

Two beautiful births coming up in the next week and I honestly cannot wait. There is something so special about supporting families as they welcome their babies into the world.

Feeling grateful, excited, and ready to step back into the birth space doing what I love most. ✨

I got to visit little Bean this week and had the privilege of guiding Jess and Rudi through that very first bath 🩵

Well… Bean loved it so much that he eventually drifted off for a little snooze while mom and dad gently poured water over him 🥹

Mom and dad were relaxed.
Baby was relaxed.
I think we have a little water baby on our hands 🩵🥹

These are the moments I love most. Not just the birth, but watching families grow in confidence and settle into parenthood.

And let’s be honest, it is not often that I get photos of myself in my happy place, so I am beyond grateful for Jess and her camera skills 📸🤍

I adore this family so, so much and I cannot wait to watch them thrive in this next chapter.

What a privilege it is to do this work 🤍
