β οΈ Corn plasters can do more harm than good
Many corn plasters contain **salicylic acid**, which is designed to break down the thickened skin of a corn. The problem is that it can also irritate or damage the **healthy skin surrounding the corn**.
In this case, the plaster caused significant skin irritation, while the underlying pressure causing the corn remained.
π£ **The important point:** treating the corn alone may not solve the problem. Footwear, pressure and the underlying cause should also be assessed.
**If you have diabetes, reduced sensation or poor circulation, do not self-treat corns with acid-based products without professional advice.**
If you have a painful or persistent corn, have it properly assessed by a podiatrist.
