HandConsultSA welcomes Fiona Smith to the team. Fiona is a qualified Occupational Therapist with a special interest in hand therapy and rehabilitation. She completed her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy degree at Stellenbosch University and gained broad clinical experience during her community service year at a tertiary hospital in KwaZulu-Natal.

During this time, she worked across a diverse range of clinical settings and presentations, including hand and upper-limb conditions, orthopaedics, neurological rehabilitation, burns and paediatrics. Working within a busy tertiary hospital environment allowed her to develop strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills, while providing individualised, client-centred care to patients with varying needs and levels of complexity.

Following her clinical experience, Fiona spent the past two years travelling internationally while undertaking a variety of seasonal and hospitality roles. This has allowed her to develop valuable personal and professional qualities, including adaptability, communication, independence and the ability to build positive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.

She brings this combination of clinical experience, a genuine interest in helping people regain function and independence, and a warm, people-centred approach to her work as a hand therapist.
