There is no clinical evidence to show that babies born by Caesarean section have malaligned spines or body tension. If your baby is fussy, has abnormal posture or stiff tone then they need to be assessed by a Paediatrician to determine the cause. A happy baby does not need spine realignment just because they had a Caesarean birth.

The quiet moments, the cuddles, the endless pretend play with my own little ones… this chapter of maternity leave has been my greatest joy šŸ’›

Now it’s time to gently close this door and open another — returning to work as your child’s Paediatrician in June.

My heart is full from home, and ready to care for yours. Thank you for your patience while I’ve been away. I can’t wait to see you all again 🩺

Toddler pretend play is crucial for developing cognitive, social, and emotional skills, starting around 12–18 months. It enhances language development, executive function, and empathy while providing a safe space to process emotions. This imaginative, make-believe play boosts creativity, problem-solving, and social cooperation.

Key Developmental Benefits of Pretend PlayCognitive & Executive Functioning: Pretend play encourages imaginative thinking, memory, and cognitive flexibility. Toddlers learn to create scenarios, which helps build mental connections and problem-solving skills.

Social & Emotional Growth: Acting out roles allows toddlers to explore different perspectives, fostering empathy. It helps them manage big emotions (e.g., acting out being scared, which helps them feel in control).

Language & Communication: Engaging in imaginative scenarios encourages toddlers to use new words and build complex sentences as they create stories and interact with others.Practical Life Skills: Toddlers often imitate daily routines they observe, such as cooking, cleaning, or caring for dolls, which aids their understanding of the world and increases independence.

Physical Development: Manipulating toys, dressing up, and creating structures helps refine small motor skills.

How to Encourage Pretend PlayProvide Simple Props: Use everyday items (e.g., boxes, kitchen utensils, old clothes) rather than just toys to spark imagination.

Actively Participate: Join in their games, ask open-ended questions, and follow their lead.

Create Themes: Set up scenarios like a teddy bear picnic or a doctor’s visit to explore new situations.

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease cases have increased. This virus is easily spread among children. Hand, foot and mouth disease can usually be left to clear up on its own at home without any problems.

Complications may have to be treated in hospital, though. It is important to see a doctor soon if any of the following is true:

The affected child is younger than six months old.
The child isn’t drinking enough and seems dehydrated. For instance, they are sleepy, slow to respond, and have a dry mouth. They might also have sunken eyes or a sunken fontanel (ā€œsoft spotā€ on the top of the head).
The fever has lasted for longer than three days.
The child has a weakened immune system.
The symptoms are especially bad – for instance, very painful, or large sores in the mouth.
Other symptoms develop that could be a sign of complications, such as severe headaches, seizures, a stiff neck (they can’t touch their chest with their chin), drowsiness or unconsciousness.
The symptoms still haven’t got better after ten days.
It is also a good idea for adults to seek medical attention if they do develop severe symptoms or the symptoms last for a long time.

If concerns or questions contact our rooms for more information.

Did you know your kidneys do their job silently every day-filtering waste, balancing fluids, regulating blood pressure without asking for much attention. The problem is that kidney disease often develops the same way: silently. Many people only realise something is wrong when the damage has already progressed.

Why Kidney Health Needs More Attention

Kidneys perform several essential functions in the body. They remove waste and toxins from the blood, regulate fluid levels, maintain electrolyte balance and help control blood pressure.
Yet kidney disease often goes unnoticed in its early stages. Symptoms may appear only when significant damage has already occurred.
Health experts point to several common risk factors:
* Diabetes
* High blood pressure
* Obesity
* Family history of kidney disease
* Long-term use of certain medications
* Poor lifestyle habits
Simple tests like blood tests and urine tests can help detect kidney problems early, which is why awareness campaigns like World Kidney Day focus heavily on screening and early diagnosis

What is RSV?
RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus, is a common virus that spreads quickly and easily. As a parent, it’s important to learn about RSV and how Beyfortus can help protect your baby from severe RSV lung infection.

RSV is a leading cause of hospitalization in babies under 1.

2 out of 3 babies will get RSV by age 1.

RSV is unpredictable—while most cases are mild, it’s hard to know which babies will get it or how severe it may become.

Get to know Beyfortus

Beyfortus is a preventive antibody designed to help protect babies from serious RSV lung infection. It’s not a vaccine—it works by providing the antibodies that a baby’s developing immune system lacks to help them fight RSV.

Beyfortus is now available in South Africa providing RSV protection for babies. It’s for babies entering their first RSV season and may be given in the hospital at birth or during any visit with their pediatrician within their first year. Now’s a good time to explore how Beyfortus can help protect your baby this RSV season.

What is Beyfortus?
Beyfortus (nirsevimab-alip) is a preventive antibody that provides fast-acting protection against serious respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) lung infection for babies.

An antibody, not a vaccine
Preventive antibodies, similar to Beyfortus, have been given to certain babies for over 25 years. Antibodies act like a bodyguard for your baby’s immune system, offering ready-made protection against RSV. Unlike vaccines, which train the body to respond over time, Beyfortus helps deliver a rapid defense against serious RSV lung infection—no training required.
