World Hepatitis Day, I want to share a perspective from the surgical side of medicine.

Every year, I operate on patients facing severe liver failure, cirrhosis, and hepatic tumours. The most tragic part of my job is knowing that many of these major surgeries could have been prevented with a simple, routine blood test years prior.

Viral hepatitis often gives no warning signs until your liver is in crisis.

This year's global theme is "Hepatitis: Let's break it down." As a surgeon, I urge you to break down the barriers of hesitation, fear, or a lack of information and take immediate charge of your metabolic health.

Smoking doesn't just damage your lungs; it cripples your body's ability to heal.

As a general surgeon, I see the immediate, hidden toll of smoking the moment a patient lies on my operating table. Ni****ne constricts blood vessels, cutting off the vital oxygen supply that your tissues desperately need to repair themselves after a procedure.

The surgical reality of smoking:
🔴Slowed Healing: Inconspicuous incisions take twice as long to close.
🔴Higher Infection Risk: Weakened immune responses open the door to severe post-op infections.
