This morning I opened Facebook to an anonymous post from a 14 year old girl asking advice. She is pregnant from a 39 year old man who is seemingly now more interested in an 11 year old girl.
There are just so many things that raises concern in this post.
🚩Firstly, the girl is not even aware that she has effectively been a victim of child abuse and exploitation.
Whether or not this relationship was consensual does not change the fact that s*x with a minor under the age of 16 is illegal in South Africa and considered statutory r**e.
🚩It is concerning that a 14 year old girl would not be aware that it is illegal to have s*x with a minor under the age of 16.
🚩It is even more concerning and frankly - unsettling, that she cannot see that s*xual interest from a 39 year old man that is directed to an 11 year old girl raises Immediate concerns about pedophilic tendencies.
🚩 From the post, it seems like the girl is under the impression that this type of scenario is totally normal.
🚩 The fact that she asks for relationship advice as if this was a normal relationship where there's some type of infidelity going on with another female, raises concerns about the upbringing and education of our children.
🚩There is no mention of her parents or their involvement or opinions on this matter. This begs the question - where are her parents and how did this happen if they are still present in her life?

📒The attached article highlights some staggering figures surrounding teenage pregnancies in South Africa, with some alarming (reported) figures on 10-14 year olds giving birth.
There are many factors that come into play that make a scenario like this a reality for so many underaged girls in South Africa:
♦️Lack of Education and Knowledge
♦️Living in abusive homes where domestic violence, substance abuse and s*xual abuse occur.
♦️Poverty and Unemployment often motivates consensus, especially when victims are being gifted, paid or promised a more stable future.
♦️Lack of Reporting cases to SAPS and other channels.
♦️Lack of Personal Ambitions and goals among teenagers to build a better life, receive a good education, and realise their dreams.
