BVA Architects is proud to be involved with the latest upgrade and expansion project for Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital in Durban.

The construction entailed the vertical expansion of Block C, adding two new levels to accommodate a new Theatre complex, Cathlab, Cardiac theatre, ICU and Service rooms. The expansion will integrate with the existing hospital through the existing link bridge and lift connections.

The busy Trauma Unit was upgraded and expanded, providing additional examination and resuscitation bays. These improvements will enhance patient assessment and the Hospital's emergency response.

The External Facade upgrade, The New Main Reception Foyer and New Coffee Shop were also included to enhance the visitor experience and present a bright new image for the Hospital.

A New Chapter in Care | Busamed Hillcrest Private Hospital

We are proud to share the recently completed ICU & High Care expansion at Busamed Hillcrest Private Hospital — a project focused on creating a calm, functional and uplifting environment for patients, families and healthcare professionals.

The expansion was achieved by breaking through the existing hospital façade and extending the hospital footprint, creating much-needed additional capacity for the Hillcrest community.

A key focus of the design was the introduction of natural light throughout the new spaces. Generous windows, together with strategically positioned skylights, bring daylight deep into the clinical environment, helping create spaces that feel brighter, calmer and more connected to the outdoors — an important consideration in environments dedicated to healing and recovery.

The interior palette introduces warm, calming tones through the vinyl flooring, wall colours, and joinery finishes. These elements soften the clinical environment while maintaining the durability, hygiene and functionality required within an ICU and High Care setting.

The result is a contemporary healthcare environment that balances clinical performance with patient comfort, while integrating seamlessly with the existing hospital.

BVA Architects has the pleasure of sharing that one of our Directors, Leanne Alexander, and her daughters had the honour of representing South Africa at the WINA (World Indoor Netball Association) 2026 Tri-Nations Tournament, held at Hillfox Arena, Gauteng, from 15 August to 22 August 2026.

An action-packed week of competitive indoor netball, proudly representing their country on the international stage.

📚❤️ BVA GIVES BACK | ZERO2FIVE ❤️📚
It was all hands on deck at BVA Architecture as our team got together to support Zero2Five with a special children’s book packing initiative! 📖✨
The goal? To pack 3,000 sets, with each set containing 6 different children’s books — that’s 18,000 books ready to reach young readers! 🙌📚
The packing process was simple: 6 different books, one elastic band, and a whole lot of teamwork! 💪😊
Our BVA team was proud to play a small part in getting these books packed and ready for distribution. We love opportunities where we can step away from the drawings and deadlines and make a positive contribution to our community. ❤️
A big thank you to Zero2Five for allowing us to be part of this wonderful initiative.
