Clinical Psychologist Lauren Snailham & Delyce Knowles have created therapeutic tools to teach and empower children to identify and express their emotions.

Children often find it difficult to identify and express their emotions so when they experience uncomfortable feelings they tend to act out or internalise them. Not knowing how to express their emotions appropriately can lead to consequences such as: bullying, aggression, hyperactivity, learning problems, soiling, bed-wetting, anxiety, obsessions, sleep problems, nightmares, eating problems, withdrawal and depression. Child Therapy Toolbox provides tools that can be used to by therapists, teachers and parents to educate, empower and help children begin to heal. The products have all been tried and tested in therapy, in the classroom and by parents. Individually and in group settings. Products include: therapeutic story books,
charts, games, puppets, puzzles and much more. All created to help children identify emotions, learn appropriate ways of expressing them and to address some difficult issues they may be facing in a non-threatening and playful way. 🏖️ SAND PLAY… THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO IT THAN JUST PLAYING IN THE SAND!

Sand is such a wonderful resource for children. It is sensory, creative, open-ended and incredibly versatile. 🤎

Our wooden sand tray has been designed with this in mind.

The box is the perfect size for a child to create their own little world - not so big that it becomes overwhelming, but not so small that their imagination feels restricted.

And we’ve painted the inside blue to represent the water and the sky, creating a beautiful starting point for children to build whatever world they can imagine. 🌊☁️

Add some sand and a collection of miniatures, and suddenly you have endless possibilities.

A child might create a family, a farm, a school, a beach, a jungle, a magical kingdom… or something completely unique to them.

And that is what I love about this kind of play - there is no right or wrong.

Through sand and small-world play, children can explore:

🤲 Sensory experiences
🖐️ Fine motor skills
🧠 Problem-solving and planning
🎭 Imagination and symbolic play
💭 Storytelling and communication
❤️ Feelings and experiences
🌱 Relationships and their understanding of the world

The tray comes with sand, and our range of miniatures can be added to create even more opportunities for small-world and therapeutic play.

And, of course, we know that once you have all those little miniatures, you need somewhere to put them! 😅 So we also have a storage container to keep everything together and ready for the next play session.

Whether you’re a parent, teacher, therapist or counsellor, this is one of those resources that can be used in so many different ways.

Because sometimes we don’t need to ask a child to tell us what is going on.
