Why this time of year is a good time to have suspicious skin lesions checked ☀️

If you’ve noticed a mole or skin lesion that has changed in size, shape, colour or texture, don’t ignore it.

A professional skin check looks at more than just the spot you’ve noticed. Dr Jonel performs a comprehensive skin examination, including areas that are difficult to check yourself.

Early detection matters. Skin cancers, including melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, are generally more treatable when identified early.

Not every suspicious lesion is cancerous, but appearance alone cannot always give a definite answer. Where necessary, a biopsy can help confirm the diagnosis.

If a lesion needs to be removed, Dr Jonel carefully plans treatment with both complete removal and the best possible cosmetic outcome in mind, particularly in visible areas such as the face, ears, nose, neck and hands.

Have a lesion checked if it:
• Changes in size, shape or colour
• Has irregular borders or multiple colours
• Bleeds, itches or crusts
• Does not heal
• Looks noticeably different from your other moles

Dr Jonel offers skin assessments at medical aid rates, and depending on your individual scheme and available benefits, consultation or treatment may be covered.

One of the biggest misconceptions about breast reconstruction is that it is a single procedure with a single recovery.

For many women, reconstruction happens in stages. Planning, surgery, healing and sometimes additional procedures all form part of the journey.

Dr Jonel understands that no two patients are the same. Every recommendation is guided by a woman’s diagnosis, treatment plan, anatomy and personal goals.

Working alongside Dr Fathima Docrat, Specialist Breast Surgeon, and Dr Shahista Khan, Specialist Physician, Dr Jonel contributes her expertise as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon when reconstruction forms part of a patient’s treatment plan.
