People can say what they want about South Africa. 🇿🇦

And yes — we have our problems. We have challenges. We have things that desperately need fixing.

But we also have so much GOOD.

So many incredible people. Different traditions. Different cultures. Different religions. Different backgrounds.

And being different doesn’t mean we have to live separate lives.

There are so many opportunities to learn from one another, share with one another and actually become better because of our differences. ❤️

This absolute gem of a man is one of those people.

He audits Inventibite on behalf of NIHT Halaal as part of our Halaal certification and visits us regularly to make sure that what we do continues to comply with the required Halaal standards.

But somewhere along the way, our audit visits became something I genuinely look forward to. I would absolutely call him a friend.

Because every time he visits, I seem to get another little cooking lesson, recipe tip or piece of advice. 😂

And this time I was completely spoiled!

The most beautifully aromatic spices, homemade atchar, chilli sauce, spicy peri-peri sauce AND fresh curry leaves picked straight from the tree at his home. 🌿🌶️

Seriously… how beautiful is that?

Two people who may come from completely different backgrounds, cultures and traditions — yet we can sit together, laugh together, learn from one another, share food and knowledge, and walk away richer because of it.

THIS is also South Africa. 🇿🇦

And I think sometimes we need to remind ourselves of that.

Our differences don't always have to divide us.

Sometimes they can teach us.
Sometimes they can broaden our worlds.
Sometimes they can introduce us to the best curry we've ever made. 😂🌶️

And thank you for the spices, the sauces, the curry leaves, the cooking lessons and, most importantly, the friendship.

South Africa… I genuinely think we’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible when it comes to functional foods and snacks. 🇿🇦🔥

There is SO much room left to create.

Different formats. Unexpected flavours. Better textures. Smarter ingredients. Functional benefits. Products that don’t just tick a nutritional box, but that people actually get EXCITED to eat.

And this might be the only time you’ll ever hear me say this:

PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD. 😂

Break the rules a little.
Mix things that shouldn’t work.
Try the weird idea.
Make the first sample.
Taste it. Change it. Break it. Fix it.
And then somehow turn that crazy idea into something that can actually be manufactured at scale.

Product development runs through my veins. 🧪🍫

I can still remember a client once calling me a “genius mad scientist.”

I’m pretty sure they meant it as a compliment… and I’ve decided to take it as one. 😂

Because THIS is the part I absolutely love.

Taking an idea that exists only in someone’s head and turning it into something you can hold, taste, manufacture and eventually see sitting on a shelf.

We are incredibly proud (and slightly terrified 😂) to announce that Inventibite is officially on the journey towards FSSC 22000 certification! 🏭🌍

We are moving from our current GFSI-aligned intermediate food safety programme and taking one MASSIVE step forward towards a fully certified, internationally recognised Food Safety Management System.

And guys…

This is NOT just another certificate to hang on the wall.

FSSC 22000 is built on ISO 22000, sector-specific prerequisite programmes and additional FSSC requirements — creating a comprehensive, risk-based food safety management system. The FSSC 22000 Scheme is also GFSI-recognised, giving certified manufacturers greater acceptance across national and international food supply chains.

So what will achieving FSSC 22000 mean for Inventibite? 👇

🔍 Better traceability, verification and risk management

Sometimes people ask me, “What exactly is it that you do?”

In essence, Inventibite is a contract manufacturer specialising in protein bars, functional snacks, and everything deliciously innovative in between.

But the difference is exactly that: we don’t want to make the same thing everyone else is making.

Walk down a protein-bar aisle and you’ll often see the same mass-produced bars — different branding, yes, but similar textures, compositions and basic flavours. If that is what you’re after, that’s completely okay… but Inventibite may not be the right fit for you.

We are here to create, manufacture and scale the products that seem impossible.

The flavour combinations that sound a little weird at first. The textures you haven’t experienced before. The best possible macros without sacrificing incredible taste. Products that feel exciting, indulgent and memorable.

There is always a twist. Always a little handmade feel. And I truly believe that is where our edge lies.

Because we all get bored of the same thing day after day. We want something different. Our palates want texture, flavour, surprise and those little taste explosions that stay with you until you get home and tell your husband, “You will not believe the bar I ate today!”

That is what we want to create.

That is who we are.

And then… suddenly God shows you again: “You are Mine.”

He gave me a talent, and right now I’m putting it to use at a massive rate. 🙏✨

I’m not giving away these flavours just yet… but take a guess. Something that pairs perfectly with rich chocolate, with a gooey centre filled with a special ingredient God gave us. The aroma fills the whole room, my kids are eating them by the dozen at the moment — and it can help support immunity too. 👀🍫

The past three months have aged me about 30 years.

I built Inventibite from a little storeroom on the farm into the three-part factory space it is today. Every machine, every product, every late night, every staff member, every order… it was built with heart, faith and a whole lot of hard work.

And somewhere along the way, I trusted too easily.

I trusted people with my business because, at the time, I felt comfortable. I thought I was doing the right thing. I believed that having a helping heart, giving people chances and trusting them would be enough.

I have learned the hard way that it is not always.

This is not a post to complain, accuse or give anyone a bad name. But it has been an incredibly tough time for us at Inventibite, realising how much stock and ingredients were taken while we were not watching closely enough. The ripple effect of that loss is now very real.

This week, Hendrik and I sat up night after night with our accountant, asking ourselves: should we just give up? Should we liquidate the business and lose everything we have worked so hard to build? I even considered opening a BackaBuddy account just to try keep our doors open.

But at the end of the day, this is our responsibility. Our loss of control. Our mistake for trusting too easily. We have to own that.

Yesterday, when we locked up, I looked down at the production area and honestly wondered: could this be it?

Then this morning I walked in with a heavy heart, looked through my office window and saw our shifts praying, singing and praising God together.

And I knew: no. This will not be the end.

The devil and his ways are not welcome in our workplace. We serve a living God. A God who has defeated the enemy time and time again. We will rise. We will rebuild. We will start again.

This season will make us more cautious, more present and more hands-on. It may make my heart a little harder—but it will not take away our faith, our purpose or our fight.

Inventibite is not finished.

This is our new beginning. 🤍
