🍽️🌟 RRV | Monthly Dinner at Ramsgate Retirement Village 🌟🍽️Another fabulous dinner was enjoyed by residents of Ramsgate Retirement Village on Thursday, 11 June, as friends and neighbours gathered in the village community centre for an evening of good food, laughter and companionship.

The delicious meal was once again prepared and served by Café Munro, the much-loved coffee shop from Margate Retirement Village, which proudly caters for many popular monthly gatherings and celebrations.

These dinners have become a highlight on the village social calendar, giving Ramsgate residents the opportunity to connect, catch up with friends and enjoy a wonderful evening together in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

A big thank you to the Café Munro team for yet another memorable dining experience, and to everyone who contributed to making the evening such a special occasion. Our resident volunteers are the heart and soul of village life, and their dedication, enthusiasm and willingness to lend a hand are what make these gatherings and activities so successful and enjoyable for all. 💙✨

🧶 MRV | Yarn Bombing at Margate Retirement Village 🧶
A splash of colour and creativity has brightened the pathway beside Café Munro – the village's charming coffee shop where residents gather to enjoy coffee, breakfast or sweet treats.

The yarn-bombed installation was created by the Ramsgate Knit Twits, a talented group of ladies who meet weekly to knit and crochet while raising funds for local charities. Their colourful display is designed to bring smiles to all who pass by while serving a greater purpose. Once the exhibition comes to an end, the crocheted items will be transformed into blankets for those in need.

The project was designed and curated by Hazel Voice, whose inspiration and enthusiasm regularly encourage the group to take on special projects. This latest creation features the cutest yarn-bombed sheep, delighting residents and visitors alike.
Special thanks go to Saprotex International, the generous yarn donors, Café Munro and Margate Retirement Village for their support in making this vibrant community project possible.

Adding to the convenience, “Wool on Wheels” regularly visits the village, bringing a wonderful selection of wool, crochet hooks and knitting needles right to residents' doorsteps, making it easy to stock up on supplies for their next creative project.

🐾 MRV | Frail Care Residents Delighted by the “Small Dog Mafia” 🐾
There was great excitement at Hibiscus Heights in Margate Retirement Village when Yvonne Eland and her Dog Training School’s famous “Small Dog Mafia” arrived to entertain residents with their impressive tricks, obedience, and charming personalities.

Before the show could begin, the canine performers had to clear security and bravely tackle the elevator ride to the second floor! Soon, Frail Care residents had front-row seats, joined by Assisted Living residents and curious passers-by eager to watch the fun.

Yvonne explained: “The Small Dog Mafia are trained to entertain audiences, particularly at retirement homes, and to interact with frail care residents. They are friendly, love people, and are obedient at all times.”

The delightful performance brought plenty of smiles, laughter, and tail-wagging joy to everyone present.

A heartfelt thank you to Joy Crutchfield for sharing this wonderful story and photos with us. ❤️🐶

🏓 URV | The Table Tennis Group of Umdoni Retirement Village proves that staying active can be just as much about laughter and friendship as it is about exercise! 🏓

Table tennis offers many benefits for seniors, including gentle low-impact exercise, improved balance, enhanced hand-eye coordination, and mental stimulation. But perhaps the greatest benefit is the fun and camaraderie shared during the thrice-weekly sessions.

A few familiar scenes at table tennis include:
😄 Scorekeeping Challenges – It's not uncommon to hear, "What's the score again?" after a ball has disappeared behind rows of chairs and someone has gone on a retrieval mission. By the time play resumes, the score, server, and previous point winner may all be open to interpretation!

🏓 Serious Faces, Friendly Fun – Players often display remarkable concentration and determination, creating a humorous contrast to the relaxed and social nature of the game. Whether you win 11–0 or lose 11–0, there are usually plenty of laughs, and the result is quickly forgotten by the next match.

🏓 Great Camaraderie – The friendly banter, good-natured teasing, and shared laughs are just as important as the rallies. The social interaction is what keeps many players coming back week after week.

🏓 Creative Playing Styles – Every player brings their own unique techniques and "tricky shots." Unexpected spins, unusual returns, and spectacular mish*ts often send balls bouncing into the most inaccessible corners of the hall, leading to much amusement and the occasional gentle struggle to retrieve them!

These moments remind us that age is certainly no barrier to having fun. Table tennis provides a wonderful combination of physical activity, mental stimulation, friendship, and laughter.

📅 Table Tennis takes place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 14:00 to 16:00 in the hall at Umdoni Retirement Village.
All residents are welcome, regardless of experience or ability. Just bring yourself - the tables, bats, and balls are all provided.

📸 Thank you to Don Tandy for sharing the photos of a recent session!
