AGE 1: Introduce your child to a circle ๐Ÿ”ด

A child needs to visually recognise and connect certain shapes for reading later on. There are many fun and engaging activities that can help your child learn about circles.

Play dough, circular objects and stamps are just some of the many ways you can teach your child about circles.

The Building Blocks Program includes activities and games which enhance all the fundamental areas of development and allow your child to develop to their full potential without feeling that you need it all, because the program covers it all, and also empowers you as the parent, that what you are doing with your child IS enough.

Early-life learning (as in those years before children start "school" - age 0-5) can profoundly impact a childโ€™s ability to thrive.

While every babyโ€™s brain is primed to learn, their brains are only โ€˜builtโ€™ once.

More emphasis today is being placed on teaching children to read and write at earlier ages, before their brains are developmentally ready to do so. This stunts brain growth in the way that the brain is designed to grow.

This is not to say that the brain can't do it. It can! The brain is phenomenal. However, putting pressure on academics rather than early childhood development and teaching children to read and write when their brains or bodies aren't developmentally ready to do so prohibits a child from blossoming and reaching their full potential.

The Building Blocks Program guides a parent in what you can do during these early โ€œmiracle yearsโ€ to give your child the best chance for them to thrive.

The program is a week-by-week guide of age-appropriate activities and games for babies and children right from their first week of life to the age of 5, and covers ALL the fundamental areas of development.

The focus is on connecting with your child through play, whilst giving them the opportunity to development to their full potential in the way they are designed to, for lifelong success that promotes their growth and development.

Here's a question we often hear ๐Ÿ’ฌ

"My child pronounces words incorrectly, and when I correct him, he ignores me. How can I encourage him to pronounce words correctly?"

It can be tempting to correct your child every time they say a word incorrectly, but this can sometimes make them feel self-conscious or less willing to keep trying.

Instead, model the correct pronunciation naturally in your response.

For example, if your child says, "Efiant" instead of "elephant", you could reply:

"Yes, that's an elephant! What a big, grey elephant. Would you like to play with the elephant?"

This allows your child to hear the word used correctly without feeling corrected. Over time, hearing the right pronunciation again and again helps them learn it naturally.

Remember, children learn through repetition, encouragement and everyday conversations. A calm, positive response goes much further than constant correction.

DIY Money Box ๐Ÿช™

This is such a great activity to boost fine motor skills. Little ones LOVE to hear the sound of the shapes dropping into the tin.

This is also great for shape awareness and colour recognition.

Count the shapes as your child drops each shape into the tin, not only does your child learn their numbers, but they love hearing you count as well!

Add pretend play to your activity, and let your child escape into the world of imagination by posting their โ€œmoneyโ€ into their money box.

What a special morning we shared celebrating the amazing dads and father figures in our children's lives!

This year's Father's Day theme was "Thank You for Helping Me Grow", and each child planted a plant together with their dad as a symbol of the love, care, support, and guidance that help them flourish every day.

The fun didn't stop there! Dads and little ones enjoyed exciting games together, shared plenty of laughs, made wonderful memories, and ended the morning with delicious hot dogs.

It was heartwarming to see the joy, teamwork, and special bonds on display as our families spent quality time together. Thank you to all the dads who joined us and made the day so memorable. Your love and involvement play such an important role in helping your children grow and thrive.

Happy Father's Day to all our incredible dads! ๐Ÿ’™

Today we celebrate International Day of Play ๐Ÿ’›

A reminder that play is not just something children do - it is how they learn, grow, connect, and make sense of the world around them.

Through play, children develop confidence, creativity, emotional understanding, problem-solving skills, and relationships that shape their early development in powerful ways.

At Connected And Supported Families, we honour the importance of learning through connection, curiosity, and everyday moments of play. Whether itโ€™s imaginative play, outdoor exploration, storytelling, or simply laughter shared between parent and child - these are the moments that matter most.

In a busy world, play invites us to slow down, be present, and see the world through a childโ€™s eyes again.

So today, we celebrate the children - and the families - who make space for joy, imagination, and play every day ๐Ÿ’ซ

Because when children play, they are not โ€œjust playingโ€โ€ฆ
They are learning how to live, love, and thrive.

๐Ÿ’› Happy International Day of Play

Sometimes children need a little extra support to slow down, settle their bodies, and work through big feelings. ๐Ÿ’›

A sensory bottle (or calm-down bottle) is a simple tool that can help create a moment of calm. Watching the glitter, colours, and movement slowly settle can encourage focus, mindfulness, and emotional regulation.

The best part? They are easy and affordable to make at home with a few simple items like a clear bottle, water, glitter, and sequins. They can become part of sensory play, quiet time, or a calming routine when emotions feel overwhelming.

Small moments like these help children learn that emotions are okay and that they have tools to manage them. ๐ŸŒฑ
