☀️ GOING AWAY THIS SUMMER? DON’T FORGET YOUR VISION!

Whether you’re exploring somewhere new, relaxing by the pool or enjoying a weekend getaway, contact lenses can be a convenient option for your summer plans.

There are different options to explore, depending on your eyes and visual needs:
👁️ Soft contact lenses — a popular choice for everyday wear and selected activities.
👓 RGP (hard) contact lenses — may provide excellent vision for suitable patients, including some with irregular corneas.
💧 Scleral contact lenses — specialised lenses that may be suitable for certain corneal conditions or when other lens options have been challenging.

The right choice starts with a professional assessment and proper fitting.

Planning a summer getaway? Let’s make sure your contact lenses are right for you.

DO YOUR CONTACT LENSES LEAVE YOUR EYES FEELING DRY? 👁️

Dryness, irritation and tired eyes can make wearing contact lenses uncomfortable but you don’t have to ignore the problem.

Contact lens discomfort can have several causes, including dry eye, lens fit, wearing time and environmental factors.
The right approach starts with an assessment of your eyes, your current lenses and your daily routine.

At Midrand Optometrist, we offer contact lens consultations and fitting options, including:
• Soft contact lenses
• RGP (hard) contact lenses
• Scleral contact lenses

Not every lens suits every person. Let’s assess your needs and explore suitable options.

THINK CONTACT LENSES ARE ONLY SOFT? THINK AGAIN. 👁️

Soft contact lenses are popular, but they aren’t the only option.

Rigid gas-permeable (RGP), or hard contact lenses, are designed to maintain their shape on the eye and can provide excellent vision for suitable patients.

They may be considered for:
* Certain irregular corneas
* Patients who need specialised vision correction
* People who may benefit from an alternative to soft lenses

RGP lenses require proper assessment, fitting and adaptation. The right option depends on your eyes, prescription and lifestyle.

At Midrand Optometrist, we offer soft, RGP and scleral contact lens consultations.

STRUGGLING WITH CONTACT LENSES? THERE MAY BE ANOTHER OPTION.

For some people, conventional contact lenses may not provide the comfort or vision they need.
Scleral contact lenses are specialized, larger-diameter rigid gas-permeable lenses designed to vault over the cornea and rest primarily on the sclera, the white part of the eye.

They may be considered for certain corneal conditions, irregular corneas, or when other contact lens options have been difficult to tolerate.

Every eye is different, and suitability depends on an individual assessment and specialised fitting.
At Midrand Optometrist, we offer contact lens consultations to help determine which options may be appropriate for your eyes.

Thinking about contact lenses for the first time? Or have you been wearing them for years?

There are plenty of questions people have:
👓 Are contact lenses comfortable?
👁️ What are RGP lenses?
💧 Why do my eyes feel dry when wearing lenses?
🔎 What are scleral lenses?
✨ Which contact lens is right for me?

There isn’t always a one-size-fits-all answer. Your eye health, vision, lifestyle and individual needs all play a role.

Your eyes, vision and lifestyle can change — and sometimes your contact lenses need to change with them.

Do you experience:
• Blurry vision later in the day?

• Lenses that don’t feel stable?
• Finding yourself reaching for your spectacles more often?

These can be signs that it’s time to have your contact lenses reviewed.

👁️ HAVE YOU HEARD OF SCLERAL LENSES?
Not all contact lenses are created the same.

Scleral lenses are large-diameter rigid gas-permeable contact lenses designed to vault over the cornea and rest primarily on the sclera ,the white part of the eye.

They are a specialised contact lens option that may be considered for certain eyes, including:
• Irregular corneal shapes
• Certain corneal conditions
• Difficulties with conventional contact lenses
• Specific visual or ocular-surface requirements

The important part?
Scleral lenses require individualised fitting. Your eye health, corneal shape, vision requirements and lifestyle all play a role in determining whether they may be suitable for you.
If conventional contact lenses haven’t given you the results you’re looking for, there may be other options worth discussing.

👀 CAN YOUR CHILD SEE AS WELL AS YOU THINK?
Children don’t always realise that their vision could be better — because they may simply think the way they see is normal.
As summer approaches and children spend more time outdoors, reading, playing sport and using screens, it’s a good time to make sure their vision is keeping up with them.
An eye examination can help assess:
👁️ Distance and near vision
📚 Reading and visual skills
🖥️ Screen-related visual demands
⚽ Vision for sport and activities
🎨 Colour vision
🔎 Overall eye health
Sometimes a child doesn’t say “I can’t see” — instead, you may notice them sitting very close to the TV, squinting, losing their place while reading, getting headaches or avoiding certain visual tasks.
Good vision supports learning, confidence and everyday life.
