I stand with Indigenous Midwives and deplore the exclusion of Traditional and Indigenous Midwives from the International Confederation of Midwives.

Indigenous Midwifery Matters because it provides Culturally Safe Care: By centering Indigenous languages, oral traditions, and worldviews, these midwives help address the generational trauma and systemic racism often experienced in mainstream maternal care.

Indigenous Midwifery matters because it leads to Better Health Outcomes: Evidence shows that access to Indigenous midwives and culturally matched care providers reduces infant mortality, encourages healthier pregnancies, and strengthens community connections.

Indigenous Midwifery matters because remote communities can be served in their communities and support networks at home: Indigenous midwives are pivotal in bringing birth back to remote or rural communities—such as in the Arctic—reducing the need for expectant mothers to travel far from their support networks.

Yesterday I attended our winter gathering of radical midwives and am inspired to continue to stand for traditional Midwifery, for women's birth rights and babies birth rights.

WE Need to prepare ourselves as midwives, be humble. Reflect on your personal trauma, embark on a personal healing journey. Leave your troubles outside of the birth room. Pray, connect with the Most High, stay in tune with your intuition and any messages you might receive from The Universal Good.

This is me when my hair was still brown(not grey), a few years ago, listening to a mother and being a source of strength for her!
