Ulcers are so prevalent in horses with vet journals stating that 60-80% of horses suffer. The causes are well documented and include stress and insufficient food/forage over periods. Equally, the causes of stress are known. Separation anxiety and isolation, travelling and competition, home/environment and management changes, weaning and castration.

What are ulcers exactly? An ulcer is an open sore on the skin or the lining of an organ or tissue that occurs when an area becomes inflamed, dies, and sheds.

Horses most commonly develop gastric ulcers in the stomach, which is divided into two anatomical regions. Ulceration severity and cause depend on which of these two specific sites is affected. The Squamous Region (Non-glandular) accounts for approximately 80% of equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS) cases. This upper region of the stomach lacks protective glandular linings and is highly susceptible to acid burns. The Margo Plicatus, (the jagged line separating the squamous and glandular regions) is the most common single site for ulcer formation.
The Greater Curvature of the stomach, is also known for "splash ulcers", caused by intense exercise or movement that forces acidic fluid upward into the vulnerable upper lining.
The Glandular Region, accounts for roughly 20% of cases. This lower section produces hydrochloric acid and is equipped with protective mucous and bicarbonate layers. Ulcers occur when these natural defense barriers break down, rather than from simple acid exposure. Ulcers can also develop in the lower esophagus or the entrance of the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine.

The question is: Why, if the cause is known,
would you not empathise? Show compassion and understanding, and do everything in your power to prevent.
Anyone who has experienced ulcers or the pain of indigestion and acid reflux and had to take PPIs, must surely ask themself if they would wish to attend an event or travel, that provoked pain and discomfort.
Whether they would be prepared to be deprived of food for long periods and confined to a small room, the equivalent of a lift/ elevator, or a small cupboard, providing just enough space for basic movement but not much more for 8, 10, 12 hours. Some never leaving other than to get a couple of hours of exercise before being returned to their confinement, for the sake of their sport.
So again, why?

Nice words from Amy who has this splendid handsome Welsh cob.
Very happy (with Equilibrate CHF). My pony is 18 this year and has never looked better. He is prone to diarrhea. So any commercial feeds trigger it. So he only gets roughage, grazing, CHF with chaff and a small amount of coolstance.

Into the token quantity of beet shreds, for supplement supplement delivery, goes mint, thyme, rosemary and some lettuce. Not every day, occasionally. Delivers some useful antioxidants, plant phenols and most importantly accustoms the ponies to flavours that enables them to be trusting of anything that I give them. Including meds.

I take care of two precious souls who live on very dry land with sparse grazing.
I've recently been forced to consider the potential for sand intake. It's known that sheep on close cropped sandy soil may have an intake of 2.5kg per day.

Thus far we have had no sand colic incidents, but as a precautionary measure, I've decided to provide a regular dose of psyllium.

I shall be stocking for myself and anyone else who is interested and shares my concerns.

While Merry and I were out riding this morning, I removed an egg sized tortoise from the road, that narrowly escaped wheels. The first I've seen since the devastating fires.🙏

So delighted for Sunny and Ninon. He's an older boy and apparently highly sensitive and allergic. It can be difficult to get and maintain the condition we require in their later years.

"The dull coat.
It has taken me months to find the recipe that works for Sunny. Finally, his condition is perfect, if not a bit on the chubby side… But the coat. He was dappling, but his coat remained dull. I tried different types of supplements, even oil. Nothing could give me the coat that I wanted.

Then I remembered, years ago there was a horse who I’d used a product on. The horse was faded & dull. A bit ribby. The transformation I saw within in 10 days absolutely blew me away.

I decided to get in touch with the company, I ordered a month’s supply. The service was excellent and I recieved the supplement in a couple of days.

Firstly, Sunny had NO allergic reaction. Which for a horse as sensitive as he is, was already a huge plus.

And in less than a month, my horse finally had the gorgeous coat I’d been working months on to achieve. To say I’m blown away is an understatement. This is a product that is not recommended or talked about enough.

I am all for giving credit where credit is due.

The product? Equilibrate Horsenutrition SA CHF. CHF stands for CONDITION, HOOF QUALITY, FLEXIBILITY.

It is VERY competitively priced compared to other supplements on the market. And it works. A highly concentrated supplement with the best, pure ingredients. 20 grams a day is all your horse needs to transform how they look, feel and move.

This is NOT a sponsored post. This is me sharing a fantastic product that is not nearly recommended or talked about enough.

CHF is sensitive Sunny safe and approved ✔️✔️✔️

The photo’s are less than a month apart. The results speak for themselves 🤩🤩🤩"

It's birthday treats today. My pretty little Merrylegs is 14!

For fun! She's a sagittarius, a fire sign like myself, so thankfully we are compatible.
Sagittarians are stubborn and pursue their wants with brute force, and often have little patience for things they don't want to do. Totally.
Shes outgoing, and doesn't take criticism or rein in her energy when determined.
Dislikes rigidity or routine and can get restless if things become stagnant.

Born in 2011. Under the Chinese astrological calender, Merry is a rabbit. Good communicator, intelligent and stubborn. Yes all of that!🤣
