One of the greatest skills we can learn is listening to our bodies.

Our bodies are constantly adapting, responding, and communicating.

Pain.
Heaviness.
Leaking.
Stiffness.
Fatigue.

These aren't simply inconveniences.

They're information.

Physiotherapy helps us understand what those signals mean, so we can support the whole system—not just chase symptoms.

Because your bodycompensates, until it can no longer and then the stratergy is to talk to you through symptoms.

Movement is a privilege.

This weekend, I had the opportunity to take part in the Rhino Run—a trail running event supporting rhino conservation. 🦏🏃‍♀️

It was a reminder of something I often talk about with my patients: being able to move our bodies is a privilege that we can so easily take for granted.

Whether it's running a trail, playing with your children, walking your dog, hiking with friends or simply moving through your day without pain, these moments matter.

As physiotherapists, our goal isn't just to treat injuries. It's to help people continue doing the things that bring them joy, confidence and purpose.

Movement looks different for everyone, but it's something worth protecting.

Every movement.
Every posture.
Every habit.

Your body is constantly responding to the demands you place on it.

The challenge is that once your body adapts, it needs a new stimulus to keep growing, getting stronger, and becoming more resilient.

That's why we keep changing the landscape.

Different movement.
Different load.
Different challenges.

Change the input, and your body has a reason to adapt again.

This is the science behind physiotherapy and progressive exercise—it isn't about doing more, it's about giving your body the right challenge at the right time.

Because your body communicates, adapts, and grows throughout your life.

Your body isn't failing you. It's communicating with you.

Pelvic symptoms such as leaking, heaviness, urgency, or discomfort are often dismissed as "just part of getting older."

But they're usually a sign that your body has changed—not that it's reached its limit.

Change is a normal part of life.

Learning how to support those changes is where physiotherapy can make a real difference.

Because ageing isn't about doing less.

It's about adapting well.

Hip pain isn't always just about your hips.

Your pelvic floor, glutes, hips and deep core share the work of supporting your body every day.

When one area isn't doing its job efficiently, another often works harder to compensate.

That's why hip pain, pelvic floor symptoms and lower back pain can sometimes be connected.

The goal isn't simply to strengthen one area.

It's to restore balance so the whole system works together again.

Your body can't heal well if it still thinks it's under threat.

When stress keeps your nervous system switched on, your body prioritises protection over recovery.

You might notice:
• Tight muscles
• Shallow breathing
• Jaw clenching
• Pelvic floor tension
• Slower recovery

That's why physiotherapy isn't only about movement.

It's also about helping your nervous system feel safe enough to let go, adapt, and heal.

Your body communicates before it compensates.

If you love walking, keep walking. 👟

Walking is wonderful for your heart, mind, and overall wellbeing.

To support an active lifestyle as we age, it's worth adding some strength training too.

Strong muscles help protect your bones, support your joints, improve balance, and make everyday movement feel easier.

One doesn't replace the other.

They work together to help you keep doing the things you love.

Muscle is one of your body's greatest protectors. 💪

We often think of muscle as something that helps us move.

But it does so much more.

Healthy muscle helps to:
• Regulate blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity
• Support and protect your joints
• Build and maintain strong bones through loading
• Improve balance and reduce the risk of falls
• Give you the strength to stay independent as you age

After the age of 30 (sarcopenia), we naturally begin to lose muscle if we don't actively maintain it. The good news? With the right type of strength training, women can build muscle at any age.

We see it as preventative healthcare.

Because every kilogram of muscle you build today is an investment in the life you want to live tomorrow.

The pelvic floor was never designed to work on its own.

Every breath you take.
Every step you walk.
Every lift you make.

Your pelvic floor is constantly working alongside your diaphragm, deep core, hips, and nervous system. Together, they form a remarkable support system that helps you move, breathe, and manage pressure throughout the day.

When one part of that system becomes overloaded, weak, tight, or poorly coordinated, your body often begins to communicate through symptoms such as leaking, pelvic pain, heaviness, or back and hip discomfort.

That's why physiotherapy isn't simply about strengthening one muscle.

It's about restoring balance, improving coordination, and helping your whole body work together.

Because pelvic health is whole-body health.

Your body isn't keeping score.

It doesn't care whether today's movement was a gym session, a walk around the block, or simply choosing to rest.

Some days:
• You lift
• You walk
• You recover

All of it counts.

The goal isn't perfection.
It's showing up for yourself consistently, over time.

Because healthy bodies are built through habits — not heroic efforts.
