THIS IS A PUBLIC AWARENESS POST -
PLEASE BABOON PROOF YOUR BUSINESSES
Most of the businesses in Pringle Bay have baboon proofed their premises. We highly commend them for this.
We have all chosen to live and work in a biosphere where we share our living space with all kinds of wild animals. We are privileged to do so.
Forget about the rhetoric that the baboons belong in the mountains the baboons have walked through the village of Pringle Bay for decades. The are more frequent sightings of them, they are more obvious now, because there is less natural foliage to hide in, this is an obvious conclusion.
There are also not more baboons than before. The same small number of baboons of baboons has always lived in Pringle Bay.
Baboons are highly intelligent and opportunistic creatures. If they do not have to spend hours foraging and simply have to walk into a shop to help themselves to some bananas or other food they will. And they will return time and time again.
There are many associated problems with this. People are naturally scared of baboons, they do not want to encounter a baboon whilst in a shop. Therefore, before an unfortunate incident occurs please baboon proof your shop.
We have to ask, why do the majority of shop owners in Pringle Bay make sure that the baboons cannot get into their shops and the minority refuses to abide by the rules of living and working in a baboon area?
Why do some businesses insist on putting their crumbs outside? Or worse insist on feeding the birds? The baboons eat the crumbs and the bird seed.
This failure to baboon proof your shops and failure to stop feeding the baboons is not fair for the community as a whole and it certainly is not fair for the baboons.
Think of the community as a whole.
Do better for everyone’s sake.
