Beautiful read and just in time for Sunday.

Fatherhood is the ultimate debunking of self-interest. It strips away your ego and forces you to do the hard work of looking inward. With three kids, you quickly learn that you can't just shout orders from the top. It requires a firm sense of guidance mixed with a deep level of vulnerability.

As we approach Father’s Day this month, I’ve been reflecting on this massive shift. Our children don't need a dictator; they need an anchor. They need us to show up with the grit to protect them, but also the humility to listen, adapt, and empower them to build their own paths. It is by far the toughest, most rewarding captaincy I have ever held.

I’ve put together a very personal piece on what my kids have taught me about true leadership, and why fatherhood forces us to grow up so we can help them grow.

Spot on.

The myth of grinding 24/7: We've glamorised the 'hustle' to the point of stupidity.

In professional sport, if you don't recover, you don't perform. Why do we think business is any different? If you aren't scheduling a 'Hard Stop,' you aren't being disciplined; you're being reckless with your greatest asset, your health and your mind.

It took me a long time to use my experience from sport but once I started using rest as an asset many things changed.

Couldn't agree more.
Quiet strength requires discipline.

As a leader in sport I always had to set the example and lead from the front with brute force.

Now I realise that my leadership has changed and I now lead with sympathy and empathy rather than getting physical. To be honest with you, I find it incredibly hard at times. There are days when the old version of me wishes I could just "get physical" to solve a problem or push a point across. But the reality is that real influence in this phase of my life comes from slowing down, listening, and understanding the person across the table. It’s a much quieter kind of strength, and it requires a lot more discipline than a tackle ever did.

I’m still a work in progress, and I’m still learning that being "firm" doesn't have to mean being "loud." It’s about the shift from leading the charge to holding the space for your team to thrive.
