Eleison

Eleison : The name of my social work practice is a Greek word that means mercy and grace. You are welcome to connect. I can listen deeply.

Where the individual, the community, and nature meet, we bring depth, gentleness, connection, and healing to life. I am the oldest of four siblings. I have been interested in the meaning of life since I was ten years old, although the answer always eluded me. I started my journey in life curious, with humor and an understanding of truth and compassion. I Have been a pupil to many Wise Masters, and

one of the many truths I accept now in my life is the last words of a beloved friend: "We have to live until we die."

At its core, outsider-witness practice rests on the social constructionist principle that a person’s sense of self is formed in relationship with others. Having one’s story genuinely acknowledged by an audience helps to confirm and authenticate a preferred identity narrative that might otherwise remain fragile or “only a conversation in our own head” White noted that without witnesses, essential moments of a person’s story can be fleeting or “flash through the consciousness and no longer be pulled back into the storyline of life”. Outsider witnesses help capture these moments, anchoring them into the person’s evolving life narrative. In other words, when others witness and respond to our preferred stories, those stories feel more real, and we are more likely to embrace the positive identity conclusions they offer.

One moment of being held in mercy,
is not intellectual.
It’s embodied.
It’s not a concept to be dissected, it’s a presence to be felt, known, and received.
Mercy, grace, love without judgment, actual witnessing.
These aren’t ideas we “understand.”
They’re states of being.
We fall into them. We melt in them. We return to ourselves through them.

These are the places where you become your witness.
The world quiets, and instead of an external mirror, you offer yourself an internal one. You notice, without judgment, the landscapes inside: fears, hopes, restlessness, calm. Stillness isn’t an absence; it’s an active, vibrant attention to the life inside you.

• Outsider witnessing meets the need for connection.
• Stillness and meditation meet the need for self-anchoring.
Too much reliance on only one can leave us tilted, overly dependent on others, or isolated.

Witnessing a life story nonjudgmentally is essential. It’s not just a nice-to-have; it is the oxygen that real witnessing breathes. When someone judges, even silently, they slam a door on your story.
When someone doesn’t judge, they are there with you, eyes and heart wide open. They are saying, "You are allowed. You are worthy. You belong. You deserve space and people where judgment has no foothold.”

Outsider witnessing is this profound human need: to have others see us, not just glance, but witness our experiences, griefs, and triumphs, without trying to fix or judge them. It’s recognition without interference. It’s the soft, decisive moment when another’s presence validates that you exist, matter, and your story is real.
In narrative therapy, outsider witnessing is healing because it creates an echo chamber where your story can breathe, grow, and be honored.

Art can become a powerful channel for stories that words often cannot reach. Art often murmurs truths frequently difficult to name in the consulting room. In these almost mystical forms, I found a visual language for what clients and I sometimes struggle to articulate—stories of brokenness, confusion, and being silenced or dismissed. Even the “ordinary,” that often overlooked space of invisibility, finds form; when it does, something sacred happens: it is seen. We do need a witness to our lives.

At its core, insight is when a person suddenly sees something about themselves, someone else, or the world, in a way they hadn’t before. Insight is one of those deceptively simple words that sounds like it should come with soft music and a gentle lightbulb moment, but in reality, it's often more like an earthquake cracking your worldview open. And it’s one of those strange paradoxes of being human. We can intellectually know something, maybe even say it out loud, but emotionally or psychologically, it’s still locked away behind internal fog. Insight isn't just “figuring something out.” It’s more like a felt realization—where the mind, gut, and heart say, “Oh. That’s what’s going on.” And that alignment? Rare. Slippery. Sometimes unwelcome.
