Everything is connected! You might have heard of the term “Kinetic Chain.” But what is it?

Think of your body as a series of interconnected links in a chain. Every joint and muscle works together whenever you walk, run, climb stairs, squat, hit a ball, or even stand on one leg. When one link in the chain isn't functioning properly, the surrounding joints and muscles have to compensate.

Here is why this matters for your fitness:
• Hidden Culprits: That nagging lower back pain might actually start with a tight ankle.
• Power Boost: True strength comes from your whole body working together, not just one isolated muscle.
• Injury Prevention: When one joint gets lazy, the neighbouring joints have to work double time to make up for it.

Fix the chain, fix your movement. 🔗 contact .physios for an assessment

Meet Leoné van Zyl, physiotherapist at our Paarl practice:

A physiotherapist who loves movement, exercises, people… and a good laugh.

I strongly believe in the saying, “motion is lotion.”

Being the “baby” of the team means I ask lots of questions, stay curious, and try to keep the energy levels high.
I’m a chatter by nature and believe sessions should be motivating, supportive, and—most importantly—fun (with a good stretch or laugh as needed).

My needle and I are a trusted duo— (those stubborn trigger points have nothing on us) 😋

I love staying active and I am currently exploring the fascinating world of pain.

Meet Tamzin West, physiotherapist at our Paarl practice:

Hello! I am a passionate and dedicated physiotherapist who believes movement is medicine and that everyone deserves to feel confident in their body. I graduated from Stellenbosch University in 2024 with a bachelors of science in Physiotherapy.

I combine clinical expertise with a genuine love for helping people move better and live pain-free. My approach is grounded in evidence-based care and hands-on treatment, tailored to each individual’s goals, whether that means returning to sport, recovering after surgery, or simply enjoying everyday movement again.

With a special interest in musculoskeletal and sports rehabilitation, I enjoy working closely with athletes and active individuals to enhance performance, prevent injury, and promote long-term strength and resilience. I believe physiotherapy is more than treatment, it’s teamwork and my mission is to guide every patient towards lasting results through education, movement, and trust.
At the heart of my philosophy is a simple message: move better, feel better, live better!

The difference between loading your back and loading your power. When you hinge at your hips instead of rounding through your spine, you're distributing force through your glutes and hamstrings, muscles designed to handle heavy work. Your back gets to relax. This matters whether you're lifting a patient, picking something off the floor, or just bending to tie your shoes. Small shift in form, massive difference in spinal safety.

Good core endurance protects your spine during every day activities and work. Research shows nurses with better core endurance have three times lower risk of back injury.

You don't need expensive gym memberships. The McGill Big 3 core exercises are designed to build the endurance your spine needs.

Eight to ten seconds per rep. Three rounds. Do it consistently and your back will handle your job the way it's supposed to.

Let's build your core strength together. Book an appointment at paarlphysios.com
