Massage Therapy...

What is it?
Massage therapy is a technique in which muscles & other soft tissues are pressed, rubbed & otherwise manipulated. There are several forms of Massage. Swedish Massage, for example is a gentle form of muscular manipulation that's used primarily for relaxation & stress relief. Clinical massage therapy (which includes dozens of approaches) treats specific health problems.

How does it work?
Pain causes the nervous system stimulating muscles to contract. The contractions cause more pain, which results in more contractions. Unless the pain-contraaction cycle is interrupted, it's hard to find relief.

Massage is a way of breaking this cycle. It "persuades" muscles to relax & lengthen. It brings pain-relieving oxygen & blood to the muscles & may remove irritating waste materials.

In addition, just being touched has a deeply relaxing & therapeutic effect on the body, although the mechanisms of this effect are not fully understood.

What can it do for you?
Massage therapy is effective for any type of pain in the body's soft tissues. This includes back, neck & shoulder pain; headaches, which are often caused by tense muscles in the face & scalp or tightness & trigger points in the neckmuscles; bursitis & tendinitis; repetitive strain injury; & sport injuries such as shinsplints.

It's best if your therapist has experience in treating the kinds of health problems you're dealing with. Be cautious about therapists who guarantee results; it's unrealistic, & it may be a sign they aren't entirely trustworthy.

When looking at advertising for massage therapists, look for phrases such as deep tissue massage, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy & myotherapy. These are all types of clinical therapeutic massage that have been proven to be effective in relieving pain.

Is it safe?
Since massage therapy involves manipulating parts of the body, there's always the possibility that it will make things worse. If you have any type of pain, it's important tonser a medical doctor before turning to massage.

Also, massage should never be done on areas where there is extensive bruising or other kinds of tissue damage. If you're pregnant, have circulatory problems, or any unusual condition, get clearance from your physician before starting massage therapy. Always let your massage therapist know about your condition; most are trained to work conservatively in such situations.

Hydrotherapy...
The prefix Hydrotherapy means "water," & hydrotherapy is a technique in which water is applied to the body in order to stimulate & redirect the flow of blood & lymph. (Lymph is the filtered portion of blood that carries waste product's away from the cells. There are 3x more lymphatic the body than blood.) By encouraging the flow of fresh blood & lymph to an area, hydrotherapy helps nourish cells & promote the regeneration of tissues, which allows the body to heal from illnesses or physical damage.

How does it work?
Water is the most efficient vehicle for transporting heat & cold. The application of warm or hot water causes arteries & veins to expand, bringing additional blood & lymph to an area. Cold, on the other hand, makes the arteries & veins constrict, which pushes blood & lymph away. This in-&-out movement of blood & lymph brings in fresh oxygen & nutrients removing toxins & waste products.

There are many techniques for using hydrotherapy. It may involve the use of showers, baths, water-soaked towels, specialized hydro equipment, jacuzzi or pools. Some people use hydrotherapy asa preventative. Taking a daily shower in which you alternate hot & cold along the spine, for example, will help stimulate the nervous system. This in turn triggers improved circulation to the abdomen, lungs & heart.

What can it do for you?
Almost all diseases can be helped by hydrotherapy because many diseases involve inflammation, infection or both. The application of hot & cold water improves circulation which is essential for relieving infection & inflammation.

Naturopathic physicians, who are trained in hydrotherapy, think that most health care professionals greatly underestimate the importance of improving circulation as a way of healing disease.

Is it safe?
Since hydrotherapy involves nothing more than the applications of water, it's safe for most people. Those who have reduced sensation in their limbs (a common symptom of diabetes), however, should always seek a professional therapist.

Homeopathy...

What is it?
Homeopathy is a system of alternative medicine that was developed in the 1800's by the German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann. This system of medicine is based on ancient principle called the Law of Similars. The essence of this "law" is that any substance that can produce symptoms of disease in a healthy person can help someone who is ill & has the same symptoms.

Homeopathic medicines (or remedies) are FDA-approved & derived from many natural sources, including plants, metals & minerals. These substances are used in diluted forms - so diluted, in fact, that in some cases, there is not a single molecule of the original substance remaining. Paradoxically, the strength of the medicines depends on the dilution: the more diluted the remedy, the more powerful it is.

How does it work?
Homeopathy is used worldwide because it clearly works. How it works, however, remains a mystery. One theory is that the unique method of diluting the remedies imprints the "energy pattern" of the active ingredient onto the water being used to diluted it. It's thought that this energy pattern can stimulate the body's self-healing energy.

What can it do for you?
Homeopathy can be used for virtually any condition, including acute problems ranging from sudden back pain to infections such as colds & flu. Homeopathy is also effective for digestive problems & for treating minor injuries requiring first-aid, such as insect bites, mild burns, sprains or bruises.

When used under professional supervision, homeopathy is equally effective for treating chronic conditions such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, allergies or long-standing emotional problems such as depression. To be effective for serious conditions, however, homeopathic remedies must be tailored to the individual by a trained practitioner. You really can't treat these problems on your own.

Is it safe?
Homeopathic medicine are completely non-toxic. They can be safely given to children & used by pregnant women & the elderly. If you are using homeopathy for home health care, however, there are some guidelines that you need to follow.

Always check with your primary health care provider to ensure that your condition does not require immediate medical attention. Take the remedies one at a time, as combining remedies reduces their effectiveness. Be sure to follow dosage instructions carefully, & to stop taking the remedy as soon as you see improvement because, in rare cases, taking too much of a remedy may make symptoms worse. If symptoms persist after self-treatment, see a professional homeopath or your health care practitioner. Finally, never treat chronic, serious conditions without professional supervision

Herbal Therapy.
What is it?
Herbal therapy is the use of medicinal plants for health & healing. It is one of the oldest forms of what is now called alternative medicine.

How does it work?
Plants contain a variety of chemicals that are beneficial to health. In fact, a large number of modern drugs contain compounds that were originally found in plants.

Consider saponins, found in many plants, these compounds break down excess mucus & improve elimination from the bowels. Other common compounds, called tannins, can slow bleeding from wounds & some are now known to have antimicrobial properties.

Medicinal herbs can be taken in many forms. One of the most common is a herbal tea. Another preparation, a tincture, is a concentrated liquid extract of the herb. There are also herbal tablets, capsules, fresh herbs as food, & for external use, poultices, compresses, creams, salves, etc. External preparations often utilize essential oils.

What can it do for you?
Medicinal herbs can be taken for any condition & they're often used in mainstream culture as a supportive treatment, taken in combination with other types of conventional or alternative care.

Herbs can reduce the side effects of certain medications, for example
Whilst some herbal & nutritional treatments interact beneficially with prescription drugs, others have negative interactions.

Herbal therapy is often recommended for treating chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, memory problems, arthritis, etc. It's also helpful for acute illnesses such as colds & for healing skin muscle or other problems.

Is it safe?
Just because herbs are natural does not always mean that they are safe. Whilse some people may assume that if a little bit of a herb is good, more must be better, the fact is that large doses of herbs may cause problems.

Ginkgo, for example, has been shown to improve memory by affecting circulation, but large doses of the herb may cause problems for an elderly or sensitive person who is taking blood-thinning medication at the same time. For maximum safety, herbs should be used under the guidance of a qualified herbal practitioner (Phytotherapist) & just because Google has most answers, Google can be quite misleading & contradictory.

Flower Essences...

What are they?
Flower essences are liquid extracts prepared from wildflowers or garden blossoms. Flowers have been used for healing since ancient times, but a complete system of flower healing was developed by an English physician, Dr. Edward Bach, in the 1930's.

How do they work?
When flower essences are prepared, the specific energy pattern of each flower is transfered to the extract. This unique energy pattern has the ability to affect the energy of the person who takes the essence.

Flower essences calm & balance the mind and emotions. They bring awareness of your "soul patterns," revealing new possibilities for creativity, emotional, mental & physical growth.

This phenomenon is similar to hearing a particularly moving piece of music. Just as the sound waves awaken and experience within us that's similar to the emotions felt by the composer, the energy patterns of the flower awaken a healing & emotionally fulfilling type of energy.

What can they do for you?
Flower essences are often used to calm, stabilize & energize - when a person is under stress, for example or is in a situation of intense suffering. The essences help bring awareness. They may be used to help resolve mental & emotional problems that are causing physical illness. They can also "unblock" problems that are interfering with the full expression of human potential.

Imagine, for example, a mother who is always yelling at her children. Flower essences can help her understand why she responds that way & also give her the ability to choose more constructive (& more effective) responses.

Flower essences are often used to help people uncover entirely new parts of their personalities. The proper flower essence might help someone discover previously unrealized artistic potential, for example.

The essences are frequently used as a type of preventive medicine because they help create positive emotional states. Another example, someone who often feels cynical around the holidays might feel more loving after taking a flower essence.

Are they safe?
It's impossible to take an overdose of flower essences & they don't cause any side-effects, whatsoever. They do, however, intensify the mind & emotions at first. People need to be aware that their emotions may be heightened for several days after starting to use a new essence.

It's imperative that you get a full evaluation as a self-diagnosis may be completely ineffective.Remember consultation is free🌺

Energy Healing...

What is it?
There is a fundamental energy that permeates and animates our bodies & minds. This energy has different names in different traditions: chi in China, ki in Japan, prana in India, mana in Hawaii, wakan among the Lakota Indians & bio-energy among Western healers who (unlike most Western scientists) acknowledge this subtle but universal phenomenon. Energy healing involves directing & intensifying this life-force energy to make the body stronger.

How does it work?
Different cultures have a variety of explanations for how energy healing works. In traditional Chinese Medicine, it is thought that energy healing removes blockages in meridians, the energy pathways that run through the body. Some healers believe that the technique works by balancing & stabilizing chakras, a series of energy centers in the body that roughly correspond to the endocrine glands. Other healers believe that energy healing is nothing less than the force of God.

Some scientists believe that energy healing works through resonance & entertainment. According to this theory, things (or people) in close proximity to each other actually resonate together. This would explain, for example, why disembodied animal hearts, when kept alive in a lab & placed near each other, entrain - that is, the individual hearts begin to beat in unison. On a more familiar level, people often feel sad or happy when a person nearby is feeling sad or happy.

In energy healing, a practitioner uses his hands to set up a high-vibration energy field. The person receiving the therapy then begins to resonate & entrain in response to that energy. It is not the practitioner who is doing the healing, however. Rather, when the body is provided with additional life-energy, it naturally heals itself according to it's own miraculous & spontaneous wisdom.

What can it do for you?
Energy healing is uniquely effective for relieving pain, especially back & neck pain. It appears to work well for treating internal problems such as those in the glands, organs & various systems of the body. It's also particularly well suited for treating psychological & spiritual problems- by turning distressed emotions into gratitude & joy, for example.

Is it safe?
People who practice energy healing need to be careful that they don't absorb someone else's low energy state. Apart from this, energy healing is entirely safe, although some healers won't work on people who have organ transplants or are taking medications to suppress immunity. This is because energy healing is though to boost immunity, which could be counterproductive to the medical treatments.
