(What the Classical Texts Called Trividha Rogamarga)
I want to share something today that changed the way I see illness completely.
Most people, when they get sick, think about the name of the disease. Arthritis. Asthma. Skin condition. And then they look for something that treats that name. This is not how Ayurveda thinks. Not even close.
Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hridayam describe something called เคคเฅเคฐเคฟเคตเคฟเคง เคฐเฅเคเคฎเคพเคฐเฅเค (the three pathways of disease). The idea is simple but it changes everything, what matters is not just what disease you have, but how deep it has gone.
The first pathway is เคฌเคพเคนเฅเคฏ (Bahya), the outer layer. Skin, blood, peripheral tissues. A disease here is visible, accessible, and generally the easiest to treat. Skin conditions, external swellings, warts, surface level oedema. These respond quickly to the right approach because they haven't gone far.
The second is เคเคญเฅเคฏเคเคคเคฐ (Abhyantara), the interior pathway. This is the gastrointestinal tract, the digestive core of the body. Fevers, diarrhoea, respiratory conditions rooted in digestion, abdominal disorders. Here the doshas have entered deeper, but Panchakarma can still reach them directly and draw them out.
The third, and the most serious, is เคฎเคงเฅเคฏเคฎ (Madhyama), the middle pathway. But do not let the name fool you. This is actually the deepest layer. The brain, the heart, the bones, the joints, the ligaments, the vital marma points. When disease reaches here, it is no longer simple. Paralysis, arthritis deep in the joints, cardiac and neurological conditions, severe tissue wasting. These are described as เคเฅเคเฅเคเฅเคฐเคธเคพเคงเฅเคฏ (kricchra sadhya), difficult to cure, or in some cases เคฏเคพเคชเฅเคฏ (yapya), only manageable, never fully resolved.
I think about this every time someone tells me they have been managing a chronic condition for years with temporary relief. The question I ask myself is, which pathway has this reached, Because the answer changes everything about what approach is even possible. Ayurveda never looked at the body as a flat surface. It looked at it as layers of depth, and it understood that the deeper something goes, the more time, effort and specific treatment it requires to come back out. More on this tomorrow, specifically how doshas move between these pathways and what that means for actual treatment.
If you want to understand what your specific Prakriti reveals about your disease pathway, Dosha tendencies, digestive strength, tissue condition, and the deeper factors influencing how your body responds to illness, that is only one part of what a complete Prakriti Analysis explores.
The full report goes deeper into your Body Constitution, Dosha Imbalances, Vikriti, Agni, Dhatu & Mala, Disease Root Cause, Disease Pathway, current health patterns, lifestyle influences, and personalized 3 month Ayurveda guidance designed around your individual constitution and needs.

Have you ever noticed that a condition you ignored at first became significantly harder to manage over time? Tell me below. I think many of you will recognize this pattern from your own experience.
