A life-changing operation
A complex reconstructive total hip replacement (THR) was successfully performed on a 31-year-old patient with congenital hip dysplasia, severe osteoarthritis and a leg length discrepancy of approximately 3 cm.
After living with severe pain and significant limitations in daily activities for over 10 years, she became the first patient to benefit from our CSI Arthroplasty Project, a collaboration supporting patients on the Northdale Hospital joint replacement waiting list.
The procedure was successfully completed at Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg by Dr Livan Turino and the multidisciplinary theatre team.
✔️ Leg length discrepancy corrected
✔️ Neurovascular status intact
✔️ Patient recovering well and extremely grateful
Every successful joint replacement is more than a procedure—it’s an opportunity to restore movement, independence and quality of life.
