COMMON CHILDHOOD SKIN CONCERNS πŸ‘€
Bumps. Spots. Patches. Rashes. . . .
Children’s skin can look very different when it comes to common skin concerns and sometimes it’s not always easy to know what you’re looking at.

Can you identify these? πŸ‘‡πŸΌ
(See the answers for each in the slides) ➑️

1. Small, rough bumps most commonly found on the upper arms, thighs or cheeks. Often described as β€œchicken skin”, this is very common in children and is completely harmless.

2. A dry, itchy and inflamed rash that can commonly appear in the creases of the elbows and behind the knees, although it can occur anywhere on the body.

3. Tiny, pearly-white bumps that are often found around the eyes, cheeks or nose. They are small cysts filled with keratin and are generally harmless.

4. A highly contagious bacterial skin infection that often starts as red sores and can develop a characteristic yellowish or honey-coloured crust.

5. Small, flesh-coloured or pearly bumps that often have a tiny dip in the centre. They are caused by a contagious virus and are particularly common in children.

6. Red, irritated skin around the mouth can be caused by saliva, food, lip licking or frequent wiping. This is especially common in little ones.

7.A fungal infection that can cause a red, scaly, sometimes itchy patch of skin that often develops into a ring-shaped rash.

8.Raised, itchy welts that can appear suddenly and may move around different areas of the body. They can have many different triggers.

How many did you get right? πŸ‘€

The good news is that many childhood skin concerns are common and manageable. But if you’re unsure what you’re looking at, it’s always worth having it checked rather than guessing.

Save this for the next time your little one has a skin concern - and let me know how many you recognised in the comments below! 🀍

Botulinum toxin: One of the most researched treatments in aesthetic Medicine πŸ’‰

Botulinum toxin is backed by decades of scientific research.

When people hear the word "toxin," it can sound alarming. But in medicine, the dose, purification and precision is what makes all the difference.

Botulinum toxin is a highly purified, rigorously tested medication that has been safely used in clinical practice for over 35 years! πŸ’‰

First approved for medical use in the late 1980s, it has been used to treat a wide range of medical conditions, including muscle spasms, chronic migraines, excessive sweating and facial lines caused by repeated muscle movement.

So why do millions of people trust this treatment?
Botulinum toxin, works by temporarily blocking the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for signalling muscles to contract.

By relaxing targeted facial muscles, it softens existing dynamic lines while helping to prevent deeper wrinkles from developing over time. Rather than filling the skin, it reduces the repetitive muscle activity that causes expression lines to become etched into the skin.

When administered by an experienced medical professional with a thorough understanding of facial anatomy, treatment is precise, predictable and designed to maintain natural facial expression while creating a refreshed, well-rested appearance.

With millions of treatments performed worldwide every year, it remains as one of the safest and most extensively researched treatments in both aesthetic and medical practice.

Why consider genetic testing?🧬
β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„ β‹„

Your DNA holds FAR more than just your eye colour or where your ancestors came from.

It can provide valuable insights into your health and help you make informed decisions for the future.

Genetic testing may help to:
🌱Identify inherited health risks before symptoms appear.
🌱Explain the cause of certain medical conditions.
🌱Guide more personalised treatment and medication choices.
🌱Support family planning through carrier screening.
🌱Help family members understand their own potential health risks.
🌱Create a proactive plan for prevention and early detection.

The most important thing to remember? Your genes are not necessarily your destiny.🀍

While genetics play an important role, your lifestyle, environment and regular medical care all contribute to your overall health. Genetic testing simply gives you more information to work with, allowing you and your healthcare provider to take a more personalised approach to your wellbeing.

If you have a strong family history of certain conditions, unexplained health concerns, or are planning a family, genetic testing may be worth discussing with your doctor.🧬

When it comes to your health, understanding your DNA today could make a huge difference for tomorrow. 🀍

Many parents (and patients) are surprised to learn that iron poisoning is one of the leading causes of serious accidental poisoning in young children.

Unlike many vitamins, too much iron doesn't simply get flushed out of the body. In large amounts, it can damage the stomach, liver, heart and other organs and can become life-threatening within hours❕

One of the most concerning aspects is that symptoms can be deceptive.

A child may initially develop vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain or become unusually sleepy.
Then, they may seem to improve, giving a false sense of reassurance.

Unfortunately, this "quiet period" can be followed by severe illness as the iron continues to cause damage internally.

The good news is that this is preventable.
βœ”οΈ Always keep iron supplements and prenatal vitamins locked away and out of children's reach.
βœ”οΈ Never refer to medicine as "sweets" or "candy."
βœ”οΈ Double-check doses before giving iron supplements.
βœ”οΈ If you suspect a child has swallowed extra iron, seek emergency medical care immediately - even if they seem completely well.

Iron is an essential nutrient. It supports healthy brain development, growth and oxygen transport throughout the body.

But like many medicines, the right dose helps, while too much can harm.

A simple bottle of supplements deserves the same level of caution as any prescription medication.

This is not okay.❌❌❌ . .
No matter how common it's become, skin should never be burnt to the point that it blisters or peels.

That isn't a tan. It's an injury.

Your body is trying to repair damaged DNA caused by ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

The redness, pain and peeling are the visible signs. The damage underneath isn't always visible.

One blistering sunburn is one too many‼️

Studies have found that having just 1-5 blistering sunburns over your lifetime can significantly increase your risk of melanoma.
If those burns happened during childhood or your teenage years, the risk is even higher.πŸ™ŒπŸ½

If you've had sunburns like the ones you're about to see, don't brush them off because they happened years ago.πŸ™

Book a skin check, especially if it's been more than a year since your last one, or if you've never had one.

And please...
Stop doing this to your skin!😭

SPF isn't for holidays, it isn't for the beach -it's for life.πŸ’ž

Those little vertical lines above the upper lip? They’re often called barcode lines.πŸ™ŒπŸ½

They don’t appear overnight. As we age, our skin naturally produces less collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, making it thinner and less resilient.

Years of everyday facial movements like talking, smiling, kissing, drinking through a straw, pursing the lips and even smoking can gradually etch these lines into the skin. Sun exposure and genetics can also speed up the process. πŸ™ŒπŸ½

The good news is that you don’t have to simply live with them.

Dermal fillers can be used to support the skin from beneath, restoring lost volume and softening these lines without making you look overfilled. πŸ’‰

The earlier these lines are treated, the easier they are to soften, but even more established barcode lines can often be significantly improved with the right treatment plan.πŸ’ž
