Lip filler is often what gives the aesthetic industry a bad name, but it doesn’t have to!

These are the tips for good lip filler:
- Filler comes in a 1ml vial. Do your lips in 2 sessions especially if you have small lips. 0.5ml today and 0.5ml 2-4 weeks later.
- Ask your injector to keep it natural! Your lips shouldn’t enter the room first.
- Take note of the product being used and make sure you are in safe hands. Restylane Kysse is my favourite!
- Explore the techniques. If the injector only does ‘Russion doll lips’ then maybe think twice. I use Julie Horne’s fencing technique and the result is always natural.
- Respect the timelines. Don’t do lip filler too frequently or lip tissue will simply stretch and we can’t fix that. I advise every 9 months, earliest I would reinject is at 6 months only if the previous filler has been broken down.

As we age lip filler is actually a great thing to do as our lips roll in with age. Lip filler simply replaces what are you losing and retains your vermillion border.

Please always remember to time your appointments as even with small amounts there can be swelling and bruising for 7-10 days, so not before a big party please☺️

PSORIASIS

What is it?
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition causing skin cells to multiply rapidly, forming thick, inflamed, and scaly patches.

What causes it?
While the exact cause remains unclear, triggers include genetics, environmental factors, stress, and infections.

How is it diagnosed?
On clinical examination and occasionally punch biopsy and histology.

How do we treat?
Treatments range from topical creams for mild cases to light therapy and systemic medications for severe symptoms.

PRECISION MATTERS

I am most definitely a type A personality and with this comes OCD like levels of detail and precision in most things I do🤣

Whenever I inject an aesthetic patient (as my patients would know) I draw some art on your face☺️
This gives me a road map that I then stick to once injections have started. This is so important as anatomy changes as you inject due to potential bruising, swelling and if using filler - the filler itself.

So when you see me whipping out my pencil before the needle just allow me my process, relax and know you are in safe hands☺️

BRUXISM

The medical term for the clenching and grinding of teeth. It can occur during the day or during sleep and over time can cause severe dental damage, jaw pain, tension headaches and worn down enamel.

At the Centre we treat bruxism with botulinum toxin injections into the masseter muscle (3 per side). This temporarily relaxes the muscle and reduces the action and effect of teeth grinding. And yes, it works like a charm🙌

I normally start with 30 units of Botulinum toxin and if need be increase to 50 units. This would be done 4-6 monthly.

These are the 4 skin care essentials for normal combination skin in my books☺️

Make sure you’re on them!

There are some skin conditions where things change a little:
My acne patients often have some salicylic acid in their routines.
My rosacea patients are often on barrier skin products alone.
My pigment patients are also on tyrosinase inhibitors.

Come see me if you can’t get your routine right! It’s an overwhelming world of skin products but one’s routine can still be pretty simple😉

Paediatric Eczema

‘The itch that rashes’

👶🏻Paediatric eczema, most commonly known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic, non-contagious skin condition that causes dry, itchy, and inflamed patches of skin in infants and children.
👶🏻Affecting roughly 10% to 20% of children worldwide, it is often referred to as “the itch that rashes” because intense itching usually leads to scratching, which further inflames the skin.

What can you do if you observe this rash in your little one?
- Short luke warm baths, clean only with epizone e or pure glycerine soap
- Use a barrier cream twice a day (epizone e or epimax oatmeal work well)
- If mild creams like protopic or elidel will be scripted by your Doc to use on hot spots or facial areas
- If moderate to severe creams like dovate will be used
- Try and identify the trigger in your child - dry skin, heat, animal dander, dust mites, cleaning detergents, clothing materials, food groups.
- Remember these rashes can become infected so if any signs of infection arise be sure to bring your kiddie in to see us as sometimes topical antibiotics are required
