One of the biggest misconceptions about palliative care is that it is only for the final stages of illness.

It isn't.

For people living with lung cancer, palliative care can be introduced alongside treatment, helping to manage symptoms, support families and improve quality of life throughout the illness.

This World Lung Cancer Day, we encourage anyone affected by lung cancer to learn more about the support available.

We started a conversation about palliative care on Monday, led by Dr Jayne Cunningham and joined by Drs Peter Berning, Joe Skonow and Sr Cecily van Heerden. The very informative talk was well attended, and the overwhelming consensus was that our Plett community would benefit from regular discussions about palliative care and end-of-life support.
