500 and counting, with a lovely twist 💙

This morning we welcomed our 500th mammogram patient, and it was her very first mammogram ever. But here's the part that made us smile: Her surname is Schlechter! The very same as our own Lynette Schlechter (no relation, we promise! 😊).

Of all the wonderful coincidences, our 500th patient sharing Lynette's name felt like a little wink from the universe.

500 women, and counting, who've taken a proactive step for their health, right here in Plett. Every one of them so much more than a number to us.

The number on the scale isn't the whole story ⚖️

Most of us have stood on a scale and let one number decide how we feel about ourselves for the day. But here's the truth: weight alone tells you remarkably little about what's actually happening inside your body.

Two people can weigh exactly the same and have completely different amounts of muscle, fat, and bone. The scale can't tell the difference. A Body Composition Analysis can.

"What I love most is the moment someone walks in nervous and leaves feeling lighter. So many women arrive apologising, for being anxious, for putting it off, for asking questions. And I always tell them: you never have to apologise here. This is your appointment, your body, your pace.

A screening is only a few minutes of imaging. But the reassurance it can offer, and the care around it, that's what really matters to me. I want every woman who comes through our doors to feel like a person, not a procedure.

That's why I do this. And why I'm so glad we can offer it right here in Plett, close to home."

3 things people get wrong about bone health 🦴

Bone health is one of those topics most of us don't think about until something goes wrong. So let's clear up a few common misunderstandings. Save this post for later 💙

Myth 1: "It only matters when you're old."
Bone strength is built and lost throughout life, not just in later years. Knowing where you stand earlier gives you and your doctor more to work with.

Myth 2: "I'd know if my bones were weakening."
Usually not. Bone loss is silent, often with no pain or warning, until a fracture. That's exactly why a scan can be so useful, it shows you what you can't feel.

Myth 3: "A scan must be a whole ordeal."
Not at all. A DEXA bone density scan is quick and painless. You stay fully clothed, simply lie still for around 10 to 20 minutes, and the radiation is extremely low, less than a short flight.

A DEXA scan simply gives you a clear picture, so you and your healthcare provider can make informed choices about your long-term health.

This is the room where it happens 🩺

If you've never had a mammogram, the unknown is often the hardest part. So here it is. No mystery, no surprises. Just the room, the machine, and the person who'll be with you the whole time.

A few things worth knowing before you walk in:
🌿 It's a private room, just for you. The door stays closed. It's you and Lynette, nobody else.
🌿 You'll be talked through every step. Before anything happens, Lynette will explain what she's doing and why, and check that you're comfortable.
🌿 The compression is brief and gradual. Just seconds per image. Uncomfortable for some breast types, but it should not be painful.
🌿 You can pause at any point. This is your appointment, at your pace.
🌿 The whole visit is around 45 minutes. The imaging itself takes only seconds.

Your images are then reviewed by specialist reporting radiologists, and your report is sent to your healthcare provider.

That's it. That's the whole thing.

3D mammography, explained 🩺

You may have heard the term "3D mammography" and wondered what actually makes it different from a standard mammogram. Here's the plain-language version. Save this post for later 💙

What is it?

A traditional mammogram captures your breast tissue in a single flat image. 3D mammography (also called tomosynthesis) captures a series of thin image layers instead, building a fuller, more detailed picture for the radiologist to review.

Think of it like the difference between a single photograph and being able to gently turn through the pages of a book. More detail, more clarity.

What does that mean for you?

🌿 A more detailed picture. The layered images give specialist radiologists richer information to work with.
🌿 The same gentle experience. From your side, the appointment feels much the same as a standard mammogram. Brief, gradual compression, just seconds per image.
🌿 The image scan itself only takes 3.7 seconds
🌿 Reviewed by specialist radiologists. As always, your report is sent directly to your healthcare provider.
