π₯ Episode 3: Kaitlin's Story
Kaitlin has been dealing with clicking, pain, and tightness in her right hip for almost 10 years.
Like many people, she tried to manage it on her own with rehab exercises, however she struggled to see improvement.
After visiting a Physiotherapist, it was confirmed that she has Snapping Hip Syndrome. The Physiotherapist also identified that Kaitlin had progressed to exercises that were too advanced for where she was in her rehabilitation. Because her gluteal muscles weren't activating properly, she was asking stronger muscles to compensate instead of fixing the root cause.
π€ What is Snapping Hip Syndrome?
Snapping Hip Syndrome occurs when a muscle or tendon repeatedly moves over a bony part of the hip, creating a snapping or clicking sensation. While the snapping itself isn't always painful, poor movement patterns and muscle imbalances can lead to discomfort, tightness, and ongoing irritation.
During her assessment, we discovered something really interesting. As you'll see in the video, her gluteus medius wasn't activating effectively at all. This muscle plays a vital role in stabilising the pelvis and controlling hip movement. When it's not doing its job, other muscles and tendons have to compensate, which can contribute to ongoing pain and movement dysfunction.

Build strength from the ground up before progressing to advanced exercises
One of the biggest lessons from this episode? You can't build strength on a weak foundation. Before progressing to advanced exercises, the muscles responsible for stabilising the hip need to activate and function correctly
