The Department of Employment and Labour’s current High-Impact Blitz Inspections are a timely reminder to businesses across South Africa that workplace compliance must be actively managed.
During a recent Free State inspection, a factory was prohibited from operating after inspectors identified serious Occupational Health and Safety concerns, including:
• Employees working without required PPE
• Unsafe electrical installations
• A forklift being operated without the required competency
• Inadequate first-aid provisions
• Additional workplace safety concerns
Immigration compliance issues were also identified, resulting in arrests and enforcement action against the employer.
