March retreat 2027...

There is something profoundly humbling about being in the wild.

We often think we are the ones observing nature, watching the animals, studying their behaviour, capturing the perfect photograph.

Yet, if we are willing to pause, something shifts.
The wild begins to observe us.
It becomes a mirror.

A giraffe's quiet vigilance invites us to notice where we have become hyper-alert. A herd's closeness asks us about the relationships that sustain us. Their curiosity reflects our own. Their stillness challenges our constant movement.

Perhaps this is why nature can be such a powerful teacher. It doesn't tell us who we are. It simply creates the conditions for us to see ourselves more clearly.

The invitation is not only to observe the wild.....but to allow the wild to observe us.
Because somewhere in that encounter, we begin to meet the mirror within.

Nature is not simply the backdrop to our healing. It is an active relational field that quietly reflects who we are becoming

Join us for our March 2027 retreat as Lisa Dion, Marshall Lyles, Abby Esquivel and Tanya Defferary invite you into an unforgettable journey of discovery through the wisdom of nature, experiencing what happens when we move beyond simply observing the wild and allow ourselves to be changed by it.

As I reflect on last week's World Association of Play Therapy Conference, I find myself filled with both gratitude and renewed resolve.

Having the opportunity to present my Contextual Sandtray Therapy model to an international audience was an incredibly meaningful milestone. While I truly wish I could have been there in person, I was reminded that connection can still transcend distance.

One of my favourite moments was completely unplanned. As I was presenting, a group of our very enthusiastic local hadedas decided to make their presence known, noisily flying overhead! 😂 In their own uniquely South African way, they became part of the presentation and brought a little piece of Africa to colleagues from around the world.

I was deeply touched by the support of wonderful colleagues who attended my presentation, people I have had the privilege of meeting over the years, as well as new colleagues who shared thoughtful reflections, insights, and their own experiences. Thank you for your encouragement, your curiosity, and the rich conversations that followed.

Moments like these remind me why I love this work. They strengthen my commitment to continue developing, researching, and sharing Contextual Sandtray Therapy, and to keep creating opportunities for connection and learning across borders.

Thank you to everyone who made this experience so memorable. My heart is full, and I am excited for what lies ahead.

There’s something that happens when we step out of the noise…
and into the wild.

In March 2027, we’ll gather at Nyosi Wildlife Reserve in South Africa for a deeply immersive professional retreat experience exploring connection, reflection, nature, and the therapeutic process.

This short video offers a glimpse into the heart behind the experience — and what it means to learn, reflect, and reconnect in the wild alongside an incredible community of practitioners.

Featuring Lisa Dion, Marshall Lyles, Abby Esquivel, and Tanya Defferary.

Step into the wild - March 2027 Retreat
Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), South Africa

In March 2027, we gather at Nyosi Wildlife Reserve for an immersive professional training where nature becomes co-facilitator, inviting deeper awareness, reflection, and connection to self, others, and the work we hold as clinicians.

This immersive training is led by an experienced international team of facilitators, Lisa Dion, Marshall Lyles, Abby Esquivel, and Dr Tanya Defferary, each bringing depth in trauma-informed practice, attachment, expressive modalities, and relationally grounded clinical work. Together, they offer a reflective and integrative learning space that supports both professional development and personal insight.

This is not a traditional training space.
It is a place where observation, embodiment, and relational depth are lived, not only taught.

Participants may join in one of three ways:
• The Complete Training Pathway (Part 1 + Part 2)
• Part 1: The Living Mirror – Observing the Wild Within
• Part 2: What the Elements Remember – Intergenerational Integration

As we’ve shaped this experience, we’ve been deeply aware of the importance of creating space for South African practitioners to be part of this work.

We have therefore created a South African Practitioner Pathway, offering access to the core training days within the retreat structure, while allowing flexibility around accommodation and travel.

This pathway has been intentionally designed to make this international-level training more accessible locally, while maintaining the depth, integrity, and clinical focus of the work.

This is a space for psychologists, counsellors, play therapists, and trauma practitioners seeking reflective, embodied, and relationally grounded learning.

If you feel drawn to this work, we would love to welcome you.

The wild is calling...
There are now only 3 spaces remaining at Nyosi Wildlife Reserve for our March 2027 Immersive Retreat
What we’re creating there is something quite rare…
A space where clinical depth meets the natural world, where we slow down, observe, and begin to notice what emerges in ourselves and in our work when we are truly present.
Mornings in the bush, shared learning, meaningful conversations, and the quiet presence of wildlife becoming part of the process.
Led by Lisa Dion, Marshall Lyles, Abby Esquivel, and Tanya Defferary, this is a two-part training that can be experienced as a full immersive journey or as individual sections.
If you’ve been considering it, this is a gentle nudge, we’re very close to capacity at Nyosi.

I’ll be joining Lisa Dion, Marshall Lyles, and Abby Esquivel for this deeply immersive experience in the bush — exploring instinct, perception, and the therapeutic process in a way that’s hard to put into words.

If Nyosi fills, we’ve secured a second private game reserve nearby, so you can still be part of the full experience.

There are some stories that live quietly in families, often unseen, yet deeply felt.

Supporting Elvis Children: Stepping Out of a Deceased Sibling’s Shadow explores the experience of children growing up in the shadow of the loss of a sibling, where grief, love, and invisible expectations can shape identity in profound ways.

This book speaks to parents, professionals, and adult “Elvis children” themselves, offering insight, language, and compassion for experiences that are so often difficult to name.

I will be placing a limited order of printed copies directly from the publishers for those based in South Africa (Cost: R670.00).

If you would like to order a copy, please send me a message by Wednesday, 25th March 2027 so I can include you in the order.

Feeling really excited about our upcoming retreat. Spaces are filling up fast.

There’s something powerful about bringing this work into the wild, where the landscape itself becomes part of the process.

Meeting the wild within.

Join Lisa Dion, Marshall Lyles, Abby Esquivel, and Tanya Defferary for an immersive therapy retreat in March 2027, bringing together healthcare practitioners and counsellors in the heart of the African bush.

𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟴 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗡𝘆𝗼𝘀𝗶 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲.

As these fill, additional participants will be accommodated at a nearby private game park, with the full retreat experience shared across both spaces.

This is an invitation to step out of the familiar and into a different kind of awareness where the rhythms of the natural world begin to mirror and awaken something within.

If you’ve been considering joining us, now is the time to secure your place.
