This is a typical case where a 57-year-old patient presented with Radial Keratotomy (RK) corneal irregularity. RKs were done before the advent of our modern laser techniques to manipulate refraction.

Unfortunately, many of these eyes developed an irregular cornea, which prevents light from passing through clearly. This is similar to how frosted glass is not transparent because of its uneven surface.

We did a simple therapeutic laser, and improved the shape of the cornea to allow the light to focus onto the retina.

These patients often still need glasses or contact lenses. Although surgery allows light to focus again, it does not always focus in the correct place on the retina.

Luckily, we have many tactics to fix this with surgery, but that is a discussion for another day.

🟢 Right (Normal): A smooth, uniform surface for clear vision.
🔴 Left (Abnormal): Shows shape irregularities, specifically the distinct pattern left by a past Radial Keratotomy (RK) surgery.
