How remarkable! This is me (audiologist) sitting in my practice in Port Elizabeth, South Africa having a remote care session with my cochlear implant recipient in Denmark😀. He was able to give me feedback about his sound experience with his implant after which I could make changes to his program, upload it to a cloud service and for him to import to his processor via a cellphone application 🤯. He could give me realtime feedback and we could also test his implant via the cellphone application. My mind is blown! Technology changing lives 👏🏻👏🏻

Ibanathi is such a wonderful, positive patient. He has persevered through a complex medical condition and accompanying hearing challenges and was able to receive a cochlear implant during 2025. He is doing well and we are so proud of him! We learn so much from our cochlear implant recipients and are incredibly privileged to work in this rewarding field. The team is currently participating in the annual conference of the South African Cochlear Implant Group (SACIG). Yesterday was the starting point of the path to better hearing for a gentleman from Holland that suddenly lost all the hearing in his one ear due to a viral infection. It is always a pleasure to work with Dr. Louis Hofmeyr and the rest of the surgical team at Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital. Better hearing, better life!
