Our modern facility is located in Walmer Downs, Port Elizabeth, in close proximity to the major private and state acute care hospitals with 55 beds (single and double rooms) and a five-bed high-care unit. Don’t miss a beat when it comes to your heart

World Heart Day is a reminder that heart health deserves attention before, during and after a cardiac event.

For many patients, recovery continues long after leaving the hospital. Safe movement, breathing support, education, lifestyle changes and physical rehabilitation can all play an important role in rebuilding strength, confidence and daily function.

At Nurture Health, our teams support patients on their journey towards better heart health and improved quality of life.
Because every heartbeat matters. Every step forward matters.

Many cultures. One shared care journey.

This Heritage Day, we celebrate the rich cultures, languages, traditions, and stories that make South Africa unique.

At Nurture Health, we are reminded every day that care is personal. Every patient brings their own background, values, family story and lived experience into their recovery journey.

Heritage Day is an opportunity to honour diversity, respect one another deeply, and recognise the strength that comes from unity.

As we celebrate who we are and where we come from, may we continue building Better Tomorrows together.

Join us in celebrating the people, cultures and communities that make South Africa so special.

When memories fade, dignity must remain

World Alzheimer’s Day is a reminder that people living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia need more than care. They need patience, understanding, routine, dignity and support from those around them.

At Nurture Health, we recognise how deeply dementia affects both patients and families. Support may include nursing care, daily structure, communication support, family guidance and physical rehabilitation where needed to help maintain function, safety and quality of life.

Every person deserves to feel seen, respected and cared for, even when the journey becomes difficult.

Nurture Health raises awareness for Nurture Vereeniging at Cormed Private Hospital

Nurture Health recently visited Cormed Private Hospital for a one-day awareness event focused on Nurture Vereeniging.

Our team set up a booth to engage with doctors, medical staff, patients, and visitors who wanted to learn more about Nurture Vereeniging, our services, and the role of physical rehabilitation in supporting recovery after illness, injury, or surgery.

The day created an approachable space for conversations, questions and connection. We also handed out branded merchandise and shared information in a way that helped make physical rehabilitation easier to understand.

Thank you to Cormed Private Hospital for the opportunity to connect with your community.

Keeping people at the heart of healthcare

Nurture Health was proud to support the Melomed Ethics CPD Forum, held on 2 September 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The forum brought healthcare professionals together to explore the future of ethical, equitable and compassionate care. As healthcare continues to evolve, one thing should never change: people must remain at the heart of care.

At Nurture Health, we believe in learning, collaborating, and continuously improving the way we support patients and their families. Opportunities like these help strengthen the conversations that move healthcare forward.

Thank you to Melomed Private Hospitals for creating a space for meaningful engagement and shared learning.

Walking out with confidence and a grateful heart

At 72, Mrs De Klerk’s recovery journey is a beautiful reminder that every step forward matters.

Earlier this year, she came to Nurture after a knee replacement following a fall at the airport. With support and physical rehabilitation, she recovered well and returned home.

In July, she was re-admitted for a planned total knee replacement on her left leg after experiencing osteoarthritic changes. Having already experienced the care and support at Nurture, Mrs De Klerk was happy to return.

Once again, she committed fully to her physical rehabilitation and made wonderful progress. By the time she was discharged, she walked out of the facility and went home with confidence.

Mrs De Klerk shared that she was very happy to return to Nurture and, in her own words, sad to leave.

Join us in celebrating Mrs De Klerk’s progress and the dedicated team who supported her along the way, helping her move towards Better Tomorrows.

If you or a loved one could benefit from physical rehabilitation, contact Nurture Helderberg to find out how we can support your journey towards Better Tomorrows.

Celebrating the people who keep healthcare connected

In celebration of Secretaries’ Day, Nurture Health, together with Netcare hospitals, hosted a series of breakfast events last week to recognise and thank the medical secretaries who play such an important role in healthcare.

From coordinating communication to supporting patients, doctors and hospital teams, their contribution helps keep care moving smoothly every day.

The events gave us the opportunity to thank secretaries, strengthen referral relationships and share more about the specialised care available at Nurture Health. One of the areas highlighted was our Specialised Ventilator Programme, which provides appropriate patients with specialised post-acute care, ventilator weaning support and coordinated physical rehabilitation.

To every medical secretary, thank you for the important work you do behind the scenes and for the role you play in supporting better patient care. A special thank you to the Netcare team for working with us to make these Secretaries’ Day events possible.

Helping Our Community Stay Safe at Home

The Nurture Aurora team recently attended the monthly health talk at the Algoa Bay Council for the Aged Health Awareness Day as part of our social impact initiative.

Our occupational therapist shared practical guidance on the importance of preventing falls within the home environment. The talk focused on simple ways residents can modify, adapt, and become more aware of their surroundings, as well as their own bodies, to reduce the risk of falls.

The session was well received, with residents engaging, asking questions, and taking part in meaningful discussions.
It was a successful morning of learning, connection, and community care, and we look forward to engaging with the organisation again at future events.

Join us in celebrating the Nurture Aurora team for supporting safer homes, stronger communities, and Better Tomorrows...

For Lesego Sehume, driving is more than a job. It is pride, purpose, and a promise to keep moving forward.

In his own words, “Better Tomorrows for me is that I am the face of Aurora and Hospitality, and I want to see this company and my family moving forward.”

Lesego’s story reminds us that every role matters. Behind every journey is a person with goals, family, responsibility, and hope for what comes next.

At Nurture Health, Better Tomorrows are built through people who show up with heart, commitment ,and purpose.

Your focus should be on recovery and not the road leading to it.
Rest assured your loved ones are always safely transported.

Our Hospital Manager, Micell Brown, shared Easter eggs with visitors, creating a warm and welcoming moment for those spending time with loved ones.

Because at Nurture Aurora, it is often the little things that help people feel more at ease, more supported, and more at home.

Hear Today. Better Tomorrows...

Nurture Aurora marked World Hearing Day with a special visit from Specsavers Audiologists, who provided hearing screenings for both staff and patients.

Nurses, carers, therapists, administrative staff, and patients all took part in the screenings and received hearing health infographics filled with helpful information about hearing and hearing loss.

Key prevention tips included:
• Avoid loud noises
• Wear ear protection
• Keep headphone volume at 60% or less
• Do not insert objects into your ears

The infographics also highlighted early signs of hearing loss, red flags in children, and how hearing aids improve communication, learning, and brain health.

Thank you to Specsavers Audiologists for helping us raise awareness and support healthier hearing.

We Got the Moves at Nurture Aurora

On 20 February, our Nurture Aurora team kicked off the first Nurture Move session of 2026 in celebration of Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Month.

What began last year as a bi-monthly initiative has now grown into weekly sessions where staff come together to exercise in a supportive and open space.

During the session, the team reflected on something powerful. Fitness is not only about weight or physical ability. It is about having the energy to play with your children, take on new projects, study further, or enjoy activities like hiking and camping.
Nurture Move is about building strength, confidence, and connection.

We are proud of this team for showing up for themselves and for each other.

A Cleaning Spree at Nurture Aurora

A clean, organised gym creates a safer and more motivating space for patients working towards recovery. This week, the Nurture Aurora team came together to refresh and clean the rehabilitation area from top to bottom.

With plenty of teamwork, laughter, and positive energy, cupboards were sorted, equipment polished, and therapy spaces carefully prepared for the patients who rely on them every day.

After a job well done, the team enjoyed snacks and pizza together, celebrating the spirit of collaboration that strengthens patient care.

It is the care taken behind the scenes that helps create Better Tomorrows for the people and families we serve.

Once a Patient, Now Leading Physical Rehabilitation

In 2021, Kathy Smailes experienced a devastating brain bleed and began her rehabilitation journey at Nurture Aurora.

Today, she returned to Aurora for a very special milestone. Kathy completed her 200th Therapy Dog visit as part of the Top Dogs group, and there was something deeply meaningful about reaching that milestone in the very place where her own recovery began.

Through her involvement with Top Dogs, Kathy now spreads comfort, connection, and joy to patients walking a path she understands personally.

She uses every visit as an opportunity to motivate and encourage others, reminding them that progress is possible.

Her journey is a powerful example of resilience, hope, and finding purpose after adversity.
