Ansonet van Heerden is a registered Clinical Psychologist in Potchefstroom. She received her master’s degree in clinical psychology cm laude from the North West University in 2004, following an internship at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital in Pretoria. She follows an integrative and holistic approach to psychotherapy. In 2005, she was placed at ‘Area Military Health Unit North West' in Potchefstr

oom for her community service year. A successful career in military psychology followed for the next 15 years. During this time, she received military training and deployed with fellow soldiers in military operations. She developed a special interest in trauma, stress related disorders and mood disorders. She gained insight into the psyche of the soldier and carried the senior officer’s rank of major. In her career span, she also consulted with the dependents (spouses and children) of the military members and developed a sensitivity for cross cultural psychotherapy. Her experience includes the treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD, adjustment disorders, substance related problems, personality disorders, work related problems, relationship problems and bereavement. She received post-university continued professional development training in the following areas:

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)
Person Centered Interviewing (PCI)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR)

Art Therapy (AT)
Teletherapy (online therapy)
She is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF). She is a member of the Clinical Psychology Forum (CPF) and Southern African Sexual Health Association (SASHA). She opened her private practice in May 2021 and offers psychotherapy to adults and late adolescents. She also offers online consultations. Her practice is LGBTIQ+ friendly.
