You train your glutes… but are you actually training your glute medius? 👀
The gluteus medius plays an important role in controlling the hip and pelvis, particularly during single-leg movements like walking, running and stepping.
When assessing someone with lower back pain, hip strength and pelvic control may be important factors to consider as part of a broader assessment.
Here are 3 exercises I like for strengthening and challenging the glute medius:
1️⃣ Clam internal & external rotation
2️⃣ Isometric wall squat
3️⃣ Side plank abduction
But remember: lower back pain is multifactorial. A weak glute medius is not automatically the cause of someone’s pain - and these exercises aren’t a magic fix.
The right exercises depend on the individual, their symptoms and what they need to improve.
👀 Send this to someone who trains glutes regularly but still struggles with lower back pain.
