Green light
Walking, light yoga, low intensity Pilates, easy swimming

Hit pause
High intensity cardio, heavy weights, hot yoga, anything high impact

During stimulation your ovaries are bigger and more vulnerable than usual. After transfer, your body just needs calm and rest.

Gentle movement is actually your friend during this time. It eases anxiety and keeps you feeling like yourself.

Today we are shouting out the people who work quietly behind the scenes to make miracles happen.

Every single IVF baby, every positive test, every family that was built through fertility treatment, has an embryologist at the heart of that story. They are in the lab before the sun comes up, working with a level of skill and precision that most of us cannot even imagine, handling the most precious thing in the world with steady hands and enormous care.

And today, 25 July, we also celebrate the birthday of Louise Brown, the world's very first IVF baby, born in 1978. A baby the world was told could not exist.

Here is something that might make you feel a little less alone though. The emotional experience of the two-week wait is so intense that it actually has its own body of psychological research. Studies describe heightened anxiety, obsessive symptom tracking, broken sleep, and emotional exhaustion as completely normal responses to one of the most uncertain periods of the fertility journey.

You are not overthinking it. You are not being dramatic. You are a human being waiting for news that could change your entire life. Of course it is hard.

A few things that might help get you through:

🤍 Give yourself full permission to feel whatever you feel
🤍 Step away from Dr Google, it never helps, it always spirals

It is such a practical, important thing to think about, especially when you are trying to plan around work, family, and everything else life is throwing at you.

Here is a rough idea of what to expect:
💛 Before treatment kicks off
A few initial visits for consultations, bloods, and scans. This is us getting to know your body before we do anything else.
💛 During your stimulation phase
This is the busiest period. You will likely come in every 1 to 3 days so we can monitor how your follicles are responding. The appointments are usually quick but they really matter.
💛 Around egg retrieval and transfer
A handful of key visits close together, the retrieval, fertilisation updates, and then the transfer itself.
💛 After your transfer
Blood tests and scans to monitor progress until you graduate to your OB or midwife.

Every person is different though, and your protocol will be built around you specifically. We will always make sure you know exactly what is coming next, no surprises.

In 1978, Louise Brown came into the world as the very first IVF baby. Her parents had been told the treatment they were hoping for was science fiction. Impossible. Not worth pursuing.

The doctors who pioneered IVF faced ridicule, rejection, and years of closed doors before they changed everything.
And Louise? She went on to conceive naturally and have two children of her own.

Today, over 10 million people have been born through IVF worldwide. Families that almost did not exist. Babies that the world almost missed out on.

Oh, this one. 🤍

Because the infertility journey is not linear. It does not make sense a lot of the time. You do everything right and things still do not go to plan. You ask why and there is no good answer. You try again and again, not because you have guarantees, but because the love driving you is bigger than the fear.

Trusting the journey does not mean you are okay with how hard it is. It just means you are choosing to keep going anyway.
